Dick Proeneke. Total respect. I've spent some time in Alaska, but grew up on a cattle ranch in SE Oklahoma. Alaska gets into your soul, and if your soul isn't in tune with Alaska, you're not meant to be there. I would love to go with you. It would be a journey of a lifetime.
Well lets get together and make it a reality ASAP,the sooner the more time when can have living the dream. I wanted to live this way when I was young too. I know it could be done. Please lets start planning soon. I would like to be a traveling magician too.I think the life style will provide the ulitmate magical life style.
hello, my name is kaytlin and have lived and am currently living in the rocky mountains in sw colorado. i've lived in this area of the world my entire life, and recently have started college. the further that i head down this path of education and self induldgence the more i feel like i am wagering my soul. recently i have wanted to do nothing else but buy about six-twelve acres of land in alaska or in some other remote place and build a cabin etc...my boyfriend and i had saved up $1500 (he lays tile and i dont do much but go to school) which was recently stolen out of his house while he was at work.... needless to say i am fed up with what our society has deemed 'important' especially the "you won't get anywhere without and education". i would like to to find a few other people who would be willing to work everyday but for sustance and to better themselves. please contact me further if you're interested in discussing possibilites. peace and love and more love is the answer kaytlin from the mountains
I have a place in Alaska that would be perfect for people wanting to escape. I already have a cabin and garden. I own about 39 acres, so there's plenty of room to build and live. However, I need to VERY selective about who I invite. If there is an interest, I'll make a long posting with more details. (Check my post on the Into the Wild thread for an idea)

I was wondering if there is anybody out there wanting to continue this topic My wife and I are trying to sell our lake front house in northern Il. my wife has a bad back and needs to get out of the humidity and extreme cold. We are looking to buy some acreage with or without a home and want to try to live off it. Organic farming, solar and wind power, farm animals etc.. looking for some others wanting to invest in a large acreage together and we could all live at different locations on the land and do are own thing but still have the others around so we dont go wacky!!!! We could also work together which would be the ideal way. Lets keep this topic going or open under a diff. heading. Lets talk Keven can also write me :seeya:
well anyways this topic deffently should not be dropped. honostly i think we should all just start working togeather and start planning something out. if everyone has something to throw in then it could possibly be done very swiftly. i mean you all seem like good open-minded clear thinking people, which entitals to us to endless oppertunitys. we should do it. plan something out or something
I do have a bit of respect for all of you that would atempt to live as a hunter gatherer. I don't believe that nature, in it's current state, could support large populations, or should I say large tribes, in this manner. Still, I do like seeing that some poeple have a desire to live this way. I share a common thread with you. I desire to live a tribal life also. Yet, I willing to confine myself to a smaller piece of land that is owned by myself or a group of people. I also tend to lean towards eating more of a vegetarian diet. I think that permaculture along with wild harvesting is a practical idea. Anyway, that's where I'm at in life. I'm not willing to go totally into the wild, yet I do desire to leave this consummer society. I'm going to leave 90% of it and live a life of voluntary simplicity.
i`ve been doing it for awhile. it gets kinda lonely sometimes. i`d like to find a woman who likes it too.
Greetingd DJ, I am definately interested actualy doing. I spent a year in Northern California living totaly off the land and then spent two years in Idaho totaly off the land and ended up loosing everything in an avalance this year. The last two years up there the weather's been getting harsher. So I'm in La regearing and now the bottom has fallen of the work market. I have the gear I need but not much money to get very far. Looks like I will have to leave the end of march. I have loved the woods all my life. Only place i felt loved and cared for LOL. I am an internal arts practiioner and enjoy just being. I dfinately am returning home (what the poisen people refer to as wilderness) . Send me an email.
well, one doesn`t really have to go a long way away from civilization to experience the outdoors. it can begin even in a city. & it`s good practice.
What about an isolated area is a new country. One where customs, language, traditions, everything is different and yet some thing you need are available.
Im absolutely open to this idea and willing and able send me emails and directions folks lets get goin. I have done much wilderness survival, I am skilled in carpentry, plumbing, electrical, masonry, languages, hunting, rescue, first-aid, martial arts, I am a follower of Asatru so hope anyone out there with me/us would be ok with this. I have lived in many intentional communities and understand infrastructure and orginization. I have a few different IRC rooms where I teach others of Asatru (Norse Paganism, Odin, Thor, Runes, Magic) so I can make the room empty for any/all interested in setting a date and let go. The economy is so bad and recently I have been having visions about living in a more primitive manner maybe others are seeing the same vision. All I need is my backpack a knife some rope and a few other bare minimums and Im ready. I lost my job about two months ago and rent is past due so im ready to hit the road as it is.
