being 19 now and being real into the dead and such im just curious what its like to go to a real dead concert when jerry was alive. ive seen tons of videos, the dead movie, have all the dicks picks and countless other recordings but i know ill never know what its like to actually see a concert with jerry(or pigpen for that matter). ive been to a ratdog/allman brothers concert over the summer and it was amazing and i tried to go to the changes rock concert is state college, pa but my friends bailed on me cause we couldnt get tickets and i had class that night. im just curious how awesome it was to be at one of their concerts in the early 70ish era(i love europe '72) and how it compares to a ratdog/phil lesh and friends concert or the dead heads for obama concert/dead shows with warren haynes...i hope they go on tour with him, gov't mule is an incredible band and haynes is an amazing guitarist but i know he is no jerry. just looking for some first hand experiences at concerts back then...i always get the feeling that i missed out
Jerry was great and the band was amazing but you can still get so much from the current lineup, when i seen the other ones play it was every bit as a good as when i seen the dead, but this was late dead mind you... but enjoy the fact that they are still playing ... they still have some magic left in their hats in my opinion.
I didnt start seeing the dead until closer to the end of their run.. and im not claiming to off seen them in their "prime". But i hear so many people dreaming of seeing them back in the day and dont get me wrong , its obviously different now but there is still so much magic left in the boys , the road goes on forever!
That one bespectacled dude in the Grateful Dead Movie says it all: "There is nothing like a Grateful Dead concert. Never will be."
