It's that time of year (around APRIL FOOL's DAY -APRIL 1ST) again for the ANNUAL ANN ARBOR HASH BASH!!! It's one of the ORIGINAL POLITICALLY-ACTIVE, MARIJUANA/HEMP-FESTS to survive from the early 1970's (1972 TO BE EXACT)!!! It's not as "BIG and GRAND" as it was in the "PARTY-DOWN 1970's" but it's still "HANGING ON, MAN"!!! With the passage of the "MEDICAL MARIJUANA LAW" in the STATE OF MICHIGAN (on NOVEMBER 4, 2008 - LAST YEAR), the old ANNUAL ANN ARBOR HASH BASH has scored a VICTORY!!! But still, the "60's HIPPY SPIRIT" OF THE ANNUAL ANN ARBOR HASH BASH still strives for TOTAL MARIJUANA LEGALIZATION!!! So let your "TRUE HIPPY SPIRIT" FLOW THROUGH YOU and ATTEND!!!

The ORIGINAL ANNUAL ANN ARBOR HASH BASH'S were always on APRIL 1ST ("APRIL FOOL'S DAY"), of EVERY YEAR, but too many JUNIOR HIGH and HIGH SCHOOL STUDENT'S would "SKIP" SCHOOL to ATTEND (which is the MAJORITY of the ATTENDEES, anyway), so the date was changed to: "the FIRST SATURDAY in APRIL"!!!

HOWEVER, the "AFTER HOURS" ANNUAL ANN ARBOR HASH BASH CONTINUES ON in the LOCAL COLLEGE BARS and PUBS (with SPECIAL "HASH BASH" BANDS FEATURED), so you can still "PARTY ON" INTO THE "MIDNIGHT HOURS" (if you so desire to do so)!!! REMEMBER, ANN ARBOR is still an "ACTIVE" COLLEGE TOWN (with a "VIBRANT" PARTYING NIGHTLIFE, and still is nicknamed: "A 1960's THEME-PARK")!!!

"HASH BASH is an annual event held in ANN ARBOR, MICHIGAN, on the first Saturday of April at high noon on the UNIVERSITY OF MICHIGAN DIAG. A collection of live speeches, live music, street vending and some occasional CIVIL DISOBEDIENCE are centered on the goal of reforming federal, state, and local marijuana laws. The first Hash Bash was held on Saturday, April 1st 1972 in response to the March 9th 1972 decision by Michigan Supreme Court declaring unconstitutional the law used to convict activist JOHN SINCLAIR for possession of two marijuana JOINTS. I attended the ANNUAL HASH BASH then, and I walked by DAVID ARQUETTE many times there, with his snazzy, "stylin'" black suit with green marijuana leaves printed over it, white-framed sunglasses, and wearing a marijuana "lei" around his neck!!! His picture is shown on the above link, to the MONROE STREET FAIR!!! He looked pretty good in person. I should've gotten his autograph, though.

On the MONROE STREET FAIR WEBSITE, I found a PHOTO of me, while attending the 2004 - 33RD ANNUAL ANN ARBOR HASH BASH. I bought one of "glowb's" CD's. "Glowb" is planned as one of the FEATURED LOCAL BANDS to perform at this year's ANNUAL ANN ARBOR HASH BASH!!!

ANN ARBOR HASH BASH attendance is usually based upon MICHIGAN WEATHER CONDITIONS!!! I just hope it's WARM and SUNNY on APRIL 4TH (this coming up SATURDAY) in ANN ARBOR, MI, as the on the day of the 2007 ANN ARBOR HASH BASH (with DAVID ARQUETTE visiting), there was a light snowfall (which soon melted, after about 1PM EDT), but it was still a little "cool"!!!

Cosmicdust... I was talking with you in last year's thread and showed you some 158 photos I had. Would like to meet you as well. If you can, look for a kid wearing a white/green pinstripe shirt, suit vest, and playing a conch shell horn from time to time.

I was looking foward to meeting you at this year's (2009) 38TH ANNUAL ANN ARBOR HASH BASH and 8TH ANNUAL MONROE STREET FAIR (since I know who you are, what you lool like and I''ve seen you many times, at previous ANN ARBOR HASH BASHS and MONROE STREET FAIRS), but due to the current bad economy and my car needing a minor "tune-up" (since the "Service Engine Soon" light comes on sometimes while idiling too long at a STOP traffic-light), I was unable to attend. On the morning of the HASH BASH (i.e. SATURDAY, APRIL 04, 2009 @ about 9 AM (EDT)), I was sitting in my car, all ready to drive toward Ann Arbor, MI (to attend the 2009 ANN ARBOR HASH BASH), but when I looked at my gas gauge, I noticed that I simply didn't have enough gas in my tank to make it COMFORTABLY to Ann Arbor,MI (i.e. with a "SAFE" reserve of gas), or enough "money on hand" to buy enough gas.

If I did make the 100 miles + round trip to Ann Arbor, MI, I'd have no gas left to make it into work, the following week, so I soon realized that it was "TOO RISKY" for me to drive to Ann Arbor, MI, as if I ran out of gas on my return trip from Ann Arbor, MI, I'd have no money to buy any gas (even though I had an empty gas can), or not enough money for a TOW JOB (to get my car home). I'd be "up the creek without a paddle", or simply "STRANDED" and "running on empty"!!! It'd may have left my car stranded, and then eventually towed to an IMPOUND (which would've caused me to pay out even more money, that I didn't have)!!!

Due to the BAD ECONOMY, I'm working TEMPORARY JOBS, of which some weeks are busy, and other weeks are very slow (which was the week before the 2009 ANN ABOR HASH BASH). I should've planned more wisely, by saving up more money (when I had more work and enough money), but I didn't!!! The SPIRITUAL LESSON here is: "EVEN THE BEST-MADE PLANS ARE LAID TO REST"!!!

I planned months ahead, and I was looking foward to attend the 38TH ANNUAL ANN ARBOR HASH BASH and 8TH MONROE STREET FAIR, so I was DEFINITELY PLANNING ON ATTENDING THIS YEAR!!! If I had gone this year (2009), it probably would've been VERY GOOD, as the ANN ARBOR HASH BASH, MONROE STREET FAIR and MICHIGAN "NORML" groups (and attendees) all played a vital role in getting the STATE of MICHIGAN to "LEGALIZE" MEDICAL MARIJUANA (EXCELLANT WORK HIPPY "DUDES" and HIPPY "CHICKS" AND ALL OTHER AFICIONADOS OF THAT "MAGICAL GREEN HERB" AND "HIPPY PHILOSOPHIES"!!!), so there was a good reason for these groups to CELEBRATE and "PARTY ON" this year, plus the Michigan weather was quite decent (SUNNY and relatively warm enough, with only a slightly chilly wind blowing), and I would've met you (ADAM BROOK), plus fellow HIPPY.COMers: "heartsoffarts" and "Capncrunk", plus many of the HASH BASH and MONROE STREET FAIR "regulars"!!! I would've ENJOYED IT VERY MUCH, yet (SADLY), it wasn't meant to happen for me this year.

It was the first ANNUAL ANN ARBOR HASH BASH and MONROE STREET FAIR that I missed in about 10 years of continual, ANNUAL ATTENDANCE!!! I'm SAD and UPSET from not attending, but I just didn't plan my finances well enough (for enough gas money), but then, I thought that I would've gotten enough work (and thus money) before then. Of course, I plan on attending next year (in 2010), but it'll be close to an entire year for that to happen!!! I'll just plan better, for next year!!!

I just wish that there would be more HIPPY/HEMP/MARIJUANA events in Ann Arbor, MI to attend, like a "PEACE, LOVE and HARMONY FESTIVAL", possibly focusing on: the HIPPY PHILOSOPHY and LIFESTYLE, HEMP PRODUCTS, "SHAMANISTIC" MARIJUANA PRACTICES and maybe some "NEW AGE" and "UFO/ALIEN" TOPICS!!! Just an IDEA!!!

If I had attended this year's (2009) ANNUAL ANN ARBOR HASH BASH and MONROE STREET FAIR , I would've DEFINITELY INTRODUCED MYSELF TO YOU (Adam Brook) and my fellow HIPPY.COMers (like "heartsnotfarts") and "Capncrunk"), as well!!! So, you now know why I did't contact anybody at this year's (2009) HASH BASH, because I was NOT THERE PHYSICALLY!!! I was there IN SPIRIT, though!!!

Since it was such a somewhat warm, SUNNY and BEAUTIFUL DAY, I still wanted to take advantage of it (and try to still enjoy it), so I decided to go MOUNTAIN BIKING at STONY CREEK METROPARK (near 26 MILE and SHELBY RDS., in SHELBY, TWP.), since it was relatively close to me, and it would take MINIMAL GAS to drive there. I rode my black, TREK 6000 MOUNTAIN BIKE about 6 miles around STONY CREEK LAKE (on the black, asphalt pathway), then I rode about 5-1/4 miles on the DIRT/GRAVEL MOUNTAIN BIKE TRAILS (for a TOTAL of about 11.28 miles, as recorded by my bike ODOMETER). I enjoyed it very much, but I was still thinking of being at the ANN ARBOR HASH BASH and MONROE STRET FAIR!!! I also love to just VISIT the city of ANN ARBOR, by itself (which is sometimes "nick-named": "A 60'S THEMEPARK")!!!

On the SOUTHEAST corner of the STONY CREEK METROPARK "BIKE/HIKE" TRAILS (close to the STONY CREEK GOLF COURSE building), there is the REMAINS of: the "SHELDON ESTATE". The SHELDON family (from "INDIAN VILLAGE" DETROIT, MICHIGAN) built their own personal "get-away" RESORT, with a: COTTAGE HOME (Ole English Arts and Crafts-Style), GARAGE, GREENHOUSE, HORSE BARN, DOG KENNEL, PHEASANT BROODER (to raise pheasants for "hunting"), A CISTERN, A CLAY TENNIS COURT, A SPRUCE TREE "CATHEDRAL" GARDEN/WALKWAY,plus some BEAUTIFUL GARDENS (scattered about the Estate). Mrs. Elizabeth Warren Sheldon (BUHL - BORN: OCTOBER 7, 1894) sold part of the SHELDON ESTATE (844 TOTAL ACRES) to STONY CREEK METROPARK (for development to be used as a PARK AREA) on January 30, 1958, and the rest of the SHELDON ESTATE in 1981. Sadly, she died in 1982, but Mr. Allan Sheldon II (BORN: OCTOBER 7, 1894 and MARRIED: JUNE 23, 1915) died in 1935.

The buildings located on the SHELDON ESTATE were eventually all torn down. However, regarding the horse barn: "When the barn was taken down, the floor joists were used in the horse barn at Wolcott Mill Farm Learning Center." ("GEOTOURS - The Sheldon Estate A Self Guided Tour" - a STONY CREEK METROPARK OFFICE brochure).

"MOUNT SHELDON" is a HIGH-POINT on the "SHELDON ESTATE" PROPERTY (which is accessible from a DIRT, "BIKE/HIKE TRAIL" in STONY CREEK METROPARK), which is located NORTHWEST of where THE SHELDON's old COTTAGE HOUSE was located. It has a SPECTACULAR VIEW of SOUTHERN MICHIGAN!!! By the way, FYI: "SHELDON ROAD" (in SHELBY TOWNSHIP, MICHIGAN) is named after the SHELDON family!!! NOW YOU KNOW!!!

The STONE WALL (surrounding the front yard of the COTTAGE HOUSE, on the south and east ends) is still there, plus the STONE STAIRS AND PILLARS (which lead up to the area where the COTTAGE HOUSE was located). Across a DIRT DRIVE-WAY, from the COTTAGE HOUSE (on it's EAST END) is a beautiful SONE, SPIRAL STARIRWAY leading into a heavily forested RAVINE, with the remains of an old CLAY TENNIS COURT, including its old RUSTY CYCLONE FENCING and DOORS!!! Through the course of time, there are now many trees growing inside of this old, CLAY TENNIS COURT!!!

When you travel EAST (through the CLAY TENNIS COURT), you pass through the cyclone fence door, down some stone slab steps, into a magnificant GROVE of SPRUCE TREES (which were planted in two straight lines, to form a CATHEDRAL-effect)!!! The STONY CREEK METROPARK placed a CONCRETE, TABLE (supported by the "TAILS" of four CONCRETE FISH STATUES) at the SPRUCE GROVE "CATHEDRAL's" WEST END (closest to the old CLAY TENNIS COURT), which many STONY CREEK METROPARK patrons, have labeled: "THE ALTER" (as it completes a MYSTICAL, MAJESTIC "CATHEDRAL" look and feel to the old SHELDON ESTATE}!!!

In this SERENE, MYSTICAL, "ENCHANTED", ETHERICAL and "MAGICAL" SPRUCE TREE GROVE - CATHEDRAL, SHELDON ESTATE area CHILDREN play "WARGAMES" and "COWBOYS AND INDIANS", while TEENAGERS "party" with booze and/or "MAGICAL-HERB" and adults JOG THROUGH, and many simply WALK THEIR DOGS through!!! "THE ALTER" is the CENTERPIECE for these PARK ACTIVITIES!!! An OLYMPIAN runner jogs through here, also (and loves this "MAGICAL SPRUCE GROVE"), but I forgot his name!!! Do a YAHOO SEARCH on: "THE SHELDON ESTATE"!!!

About 2 years ago (in 2007), I was MOUNTAIN BIKING through this SPRUCE GROVE, and I stopped to talk with a group of "HIP" teenagers, about many "X-FILE", MYSTICAL and ESOTERIC TOPICS. One of the girls said that she had some "PSYCHIC ABILITIES", and one teenaged boy (or "young adult"), gave me his business card, stating that he was a local, DETROIT ROCK MUSICIAN!!! They were photographing the girl (who was posing upon "THE ALTER"). Then, in the same summer of 2007, I rode my MOUNTAIN BIKE through the SPRUCE GROVE, and there was another group of "HIP" teenagers there "partying" at "THE ALTER" (SMOKING POT, TOO), which I thought was the same group that I met about 2 months earlier, but it was a different group!!! One of the teenage (or "young adult") males gave me his business card, as well!!! He was a local DETROIT DJ!!! He was also interested for me to E-MAIL him, some cool "X-FILE" type of websites!!!

I love to MEDITATE by (and sitting upon) "THE ALTER" (in that beautiful, MYSTICAL and "ENCHANTED" SPRUCE GROVE - CATHEDRAL)!!! It is trulely HEAVENLY, SERENE and "AWE-INSPIRING" for me to do so!!! I also sit upon the STONE WALL (with my back resting on the SOUTH END STONE PILLAR, of the STONE STARIWAY that leads to where the OLD SHELDON COTTAGE HOME was) and MEDITATE there, as well, plus I sit upon the STONE WALL surrounding the old SHELDON COTTAGE HOME FRONTYARD (facing due SOUTH and into a beautiful MEADOW) and MEDITATE there, as well!!!

On THE INTERNET, I found a post from a follow STONY CREEK METROPARK "MOUNTAIN BIKER" (whom I don't know), but he posted some just lovely photos of "THE SHELDON ESTATE": "THE STONE ALTER, "THE OLD CLAY TENNIS COURT" and "THE MYSTICAL, ENCHANTED WHITE SPRUCE GROVE". These are some of my favorite STONY CREEK METROPARK "MEDITATION" SITES (as depicted in the ABOVE PHOTOS)!!! "THE SHELDON ESTATE" (of STONY CREEK METROPARK) has become a "LOCAL SACRED-SITE" - very MYSTICAL, MAGICAL, ETHERICAL, ESOTERIC and even "ENCHANTED"!!! LOCAL RESIDENTS all call that STONE (REALLY MADE OF CONCRETE, AND "CASTED" INTO FORM) TABLE (with CONCRETE "FISHEES") - "THE ALTER"!!! SHALL WE MEET AT "THE ALTER"???

AS A SIDE-NOTE: Here is my definition of:

"ALTER" - Commonly, a "STONE MONOLITH", created expressely for the WORSHIPPING OF "HIGHER-DIETIES" AND/OR A "UNIVERSAL ESSENCE", and also, commonly used for ANIMAL AND/OR HUMAN "SACRIFICE" (with the FOCUSED INTENT of "BREAKING THROUGH" into HIGHER-DIMENSIONAL-PLANES, for KNOWLEDGE and POWER, by the DEAD, DEPARTING "SPIRIT/SOUL" ENTERING INTO THOSE HIGHER DIMENSIONS, CREATING A TEMPORARY "INTER-DIMENSIONAL PORTAL", in which to "ALTER" one's "QUANTUM CONSCIOUSNESS LEVEL" into "HIGHER-QUANTUM STATES" ).

IN ESSENCE, "ALTERS" are a "FOCUS-POINT" (usually made from STONE, with a "HIGHLY-CRYSTALLINE" STRUCTURE - "CRYSTALLINED" = "CRYST"="CHRIST", "ALLINED"= "ALIGNED", "CHRIST-ALIGNED" to "CHRIST CONSCIOUSNESS", which CONNECTS DIRECTLY INTO "COSMIC CONSCIOUSNESS"), with the "FOCUSED INTENT" to PERFORM ACTS to GAIN ACCESS to "ALTERED STATES OF CONSCIOUSNESS"!!! POT and ACID also work, as well!!! SIMPLE TO UNDERSTAND??? ISN'T IT??? "ALTER"-ED STATES OF CONSCIOUSNESS!!! COOL "ESOTERIC" WORD-PLAY!!!

In the NORTHEAST corner of STONY CREEK METROPARK, is a PICNIC AREA, which has an old, wooden PICNIC TABLE, "HIDDEN" away in a thick GROVE of PINE TREES (with MARIJUANA LEAVES and COMMENTS carved into it), which is called: "THE STONER'S TABLE", where "MAGICAL HERB" is consumed)!!! It may still be there (as I haven't checked there in awhile), unless the PARK OFFICIALS moved it??? In the 1970's, STONY CREEK METROPARK was "nick-named": "STONER'S CREEK" (for obvious reasons), and today, it is still the same (although a little less so)!!!

During the SPRING, SUMMER and FALL MONTHS, I try to MOUNTAIN BIKE, almost EVERY WEEKEND, so maybe we can meet there in STONY CREEK METRO PARK, for a "PICNIC" to just TALK and EAT!!! I can show you the "cool", MYSTICAL SHELDON ESTATE area and where the "SECRET" "STONER'S PICNIC TABLE" is!!! At STONY CREEK METROPARK, there are many SECLUDED AREAS to "party"' at!!! Since, it IS NOT the CITY of ANN ARBOR, MI (with its lenient "POT LAWS", and $25 FIRST OFFENSE FINE), it is PROBABLY WISE not to smoke in the " MAIN PICNIC AREAS (or OUT IN THE OPEN)!!! If "heartsnotfarts" and "Capncrunk" want to meet me there (with some friends) that would be "ccol" too (or any other HIPPY.com-ers, for that matter)!!!

THE ANN ARBOR STREET ART FAIR is coming up (JULY 15-18), plus: THE MICHIGAN RENAISSANCE FESTIVAL (WEEKENDS, PLUS "LABOR DAY": AUG 15 - OCT. 4, 2009), THE ROMEO PEACH FESTIVAL (SEPT 3 - SEPT 7 - LABOR DAY), ROCHESTER's "APPLES AND ARTS" FESTIVAL (SEPT 11-13) and the STONY CREEK METROPARK FIREWORKS (JULY 4TH: 10 PM - EDT), so if any HIPPY.COMers can meet me, at some of these SUMMER EVENTS (which I TRY TO ATTEND and usually DO ATTEND)!!!

The "DOORS" ROCK GROUP (with the aid of LSD), knew about our QUANTUM "DOORS OF PERCEPTION"!!!
