I Have to take Paxil now!

Bella, I hope I didn't sound too much like I was going Tom Cruise... I had to use (almost finished) paxil, rivotril - had some awful nightmares - and you ect...guess everyone has their reasons.
I'll agree with something about these meds though - sometimes a person has to choose the less evil. If you're on the precipice - it's better to take meds and at least get a shot at surviving.
What I do say though - is what I've learned - when you feel better - you must try to stop using that shit. Pretty sure that 99% of people who use these things would rather not. ...there's also the fact that you can't just go cold turkey from these - it'll be even worse for the suicide factor. The body goes nuts too. Shakes, dizziness - I forget...
Good luck to you - really. It makes us envy of even people who have no legs and can do anything while - we are in a healthy body that can't do anything...

I would not recommend taking any of them except in the most extreme conditions and if all else fails.

Most of the people I know are prescribed some type of psychoactive meds! That's a lot of damn people! I suppose out in the general public it's pretty much the same. Makes going out in public to the grocery store kind of scary. I've witnessed first hand what some of these meds can do to people. And the doctors prescribing them do not have good policies in place for follow-up. "Here, take these and come back in a month".... But in a week you might not even know what you are doing and if you should call the doctor, they might be on vacation and nobody knows what to do if you are outside smashing things...


I wouldn't touch a pill with a 10 foot pole, unless I felt like I was dying, which puts me extremely in the minority. Funny how so MANY politicians and doctors own stock in pharmaceutical companies. Do we really WANT to support THEIR drug business? I don't.

Seeing how I know so many folks on meds, I ask about them. Almost without exception, I get pretty much the same "I hate them" response. My hubby is prescribes a couple things and he has had uncountable troubles with them. Stupid doctor put him on 4 things at once at the SAME time as he was quitting drinking cold turkey... How the HELL is a Dr. Supposed to sort out all that all at once??? Fools. Luckily, he is now on only tiny (baby) doses of 2 meds and completely finished with drinking which is probably what caused all the problems to begin with. But he has tried several times unsuccessfully to completely get off the rest of the meds. Totally addicted to those tiny doses and goes completely wacked and physically sick if he tries. Great way to live.

I'd try just about ANY other more natural alternatives...

 

Yeah, I've never heard about any of that. I don't really know how much of it I believe though now that I'm reading it; ya know and how much it applies to modern day medicine.

 

i am not disagreeing with anyone that they are overperscriped. I have first hand experience with it, myself and what I view.
I also work with a lot of people who NEED meds though. It seems like most of them have a permanent or long term chemical imbalance though.
I acutally haven't read to many studies on PTSD and the use of meds. I guess I should have though, since that's what I am takign them for. I always feel the need to be highly educated when it comes to helpign others, but fly by the seat of my pants when it comes to me. SOmethign to work on I guess .
If anyone could tell me how the hell to get off my celexa without crying spells, I would be very appreciative .

The problem with "natural remedies" is that they are not "fast" - in the sense that people who live some sort of anxiety or other need relief quickly. If you've ever experienced a big panic attack - you can't wait 10 seconds. Maybe in 50 years, there'll be better medication or better natural medicine but in the meantime, some people really need that medicine.
Hipbill, I believe that pharmaceutical may push their meds but most doctors don't. Remember one thing - people go to doctors and not the other way around. Our ways of life don't help also.
Like I did say though - that stuff is shit - and once you can get off of it - do it asap.

 

research the facts friend. dont just say "i believe". the facts speak for themselves.

and as far as the "fast" comment. thats part of whats wrong with society,everyone wants instant gratification. a magic pill. it plays right into their hands.

When I first got it, I took way too much, but now that I only take it when I need it, it is the most wonderful drug on the planet for anxiety IMO.

 

It's already been stated that PTSD is not a chemical imbalance. The woman needs therapy, understanding and time not chemicals. Whether or not HHB has posted fact, Mayqueen does not need these pills. If you can't see that you're blind. If you still want to dispute this, do it in another thread, all you're going to do is confuse this poor young person.

"I believe" is as valid as "the facts" (OFTEN). Facts are numbers that have been manipulated. I'm not saying lottery numbers but take for instance the suicide & paxil. I have been there. When reaching the point of taking paxil - there is already an underlying problem with life. Like I said between drowning and falling into a volcano - I'll take a chance in the lake - I might swim, float - be rescued in time. So, paxil is still preferable to death - woudln't you say? Then the journey begins - it's up to each individual to find what's good for them. Paxil was never meant to be taken for life, which is another problem. Crutches are for till the leg is healed. Continue with the crutches and your leg will never regain strenght.
The problem with pills - imho are two:
1) These meds still have to be perfected.
2) You don't go into natural techniques to calm anxiety before having them. So someone who can't breathe properly - well, they can't give a shit about that when they have the feeling that they're going nuts. They need relief.

My opinion is just an opinion. I am not trying to change anyone's mind. I find it amusing when everyone on here tries to hard to change someone when they disagree with their views. It's like seriously? I am not allowed to like a sweater without being called fat or think people with PTSD sometimes need meds without being called uneducated? wow, just wow.
i have the feeling A LOT of people here were rejects in high school and have something to make up for now.

In the 50s a book called "The Seduction of the Innocent" came out. It proved beyond a doubt that comic books were corrupting kids. A psychyatrist published that. He based this on the fact that people in jail read mostly comic books. So, people who read comic books turned criminal. You look that up.

Again, my opinion, I think there ought to be a better balance with meds - but there are good things about them. There is a place for them. Maybe not as big as it is. Maybe even bigger but like I said - improved versions - versions that wouldn't affect other parts of the brain than the ones they are supposed to.

Even pot hits some people wrong, my girl was doom and gloom until kicking the pot, then the shrink head drugs went (all 3 of them)
