I've seen it done a couple times at peoples houses, but never really knew how it was setup.

Anybody know what cables or wires I need by any chance?

My husband and I are able to connect our TV to our PC with an 'S-Video' cable, but our TV is an '04 flat screen (not HD); your best bet is to go to an electronics store - Radio Shack or Best Buy - and ask a tech. Sorry I couldn't be of more help :)

You need to hit up somewhere with electronics and get a video card that has an hdmi output. It'll run you about $80. Then get the HDMI cable.

First check to make sure your TV is HDMI capable of course.

If not get a $60 video card that has TV out but no HDMI since you don't need it. Then get a DVI cable instead of an HDMI cable.

Option 1 will run you around $100 before taxes. Option 2 will run you about $75-$80 before taxes.

Of course you'll want to look into a wireless keyboard and mouse as well to make it a more functional set up. A good set will run you $80 as well.

you should probably be able to use an s-video cable for the image, and if you want the sound to come from the tv you can get a cord which plugs into an earphone jack but splits into the red and yellow plugs for the tv

this is how i used to do it. since reformatting my computer though i no longer get a tv out option

Yeah, I was worried I'd have to get a video card of some sort because I don't know were I'd hook it up on the back of the PC. The computer monitor is plugged up already.

So in order to get the TV to run with what is on the monitor simultaneously, I'd need another out anyways, and a video card of some sort fits the profile.

This would be ideal.. My TV is already setup with surround sound speakers, so all I really need would be the image. I'ma drop by Radio Shack this afternoon, forgot we had one right down the street.

if you have an off-the-shelf computer, it may already be set up for this. check the back of the computer for an s-video hookup

if you have one of these on the back, and its not what the monitor is plugged into, and you are able to send the video out to the tv, then you can set it to simultaneously displaying on the tv and the computer.

The bottom picture is the basic video card I was talking about for around $60 as well.

[IMG] This is what mine looks like.. I don't have the DVI or S-Video slot on the back of my PC.. Just VGA (which is analog signal).. So you think I should get a new video card, that way I can go DVI to DVI, or DVI to HDMI to get better picture? The guy at radio shack I just got done talking with said the VGA would give me a good picture, but since I've got home I've already figured out that VGA is the bottom of the pedestal if you going for the best type of picture/sound quality.
