Alright so... 9 months ago I went to my doctor for my usual pap test and STD test. My STD test was fine and I had nothing, as I expected. However, my doctor found cancerous cells after doing my pap test. To my knowledge, you have to have HPV to get cervical cancer. Is this correct?

Anyway, he told me to come back in 6 months for another pap test. I was in Alberta and couldn't go and am just now getting around to scheduling my appointment. But I'm terrified. I know cervical cancer can possibly lead to not being able to have children and although I do not currently want children, I think I would feel useless as a woman if I found out I could never have children.

Any advice, thoughts, opinions, would be appreciated.

do you have actual cancerous cells, or pre-cancerous growths? if it's pre-cancerous, they can just sorta remove the cells, very easily, and you shouldn't have a problem. it's more of a precaution. if they're actually cancerous, they'd want to remove those cells more quickly, and might have to remove some of your cervix. i've heard that partial cervix removal will not make baby having impossible. it will still be possible. however, given that they told you to come back in six months, i imagine you just have abnormal growths, and not actually cervical cancer. very different. ask your doctor as many questions as you want; i didn't find internet helpful with that stuff.
