Does anyone know the consequences of not registering? It's a law correct? thats why its required.. I really dont want my name on a list of people to potentially be drafted in the future. Nor do i want to be on any list for that matter.. I'm not your fuckin monkey, leave me alone dammit.
I am pretty sure it is law..just do it, but if they ever call you for service, tell them you are a conscientious objector and you do not fight in man's useless wars.
As far as I know it is the law. I had to do it when I was 18 or I was told it would be held against me should I ever want grants or loans for college. As well as threats of jail, which I'm not so sure is 100% correct. I just filled it out, sent it in, and never heard any more about it.
I didn't register. It took them 3 years to track me down and attempt to apprehend me. The only things that kept me out of jail were 600 Air Force security policemen armed with M-16s. After 4 letters and 6 phone calls they still failed to recognize that I had enlisted in the Air Force at age 18. Morons.
Whether you sign it or not, it really makes no difference at this point as far as being or not being drafted. They will find you either way. But chances are if you don't sign it, they will hassle you and attempt to fine you for a good sum of money, even though selective service is completely unconstitutional to begin with.
i'm pretty sure you ARE still able to register as a....whats it called....a conscientious objector? is that right?......you know, a coward if i'm not mistaken, you're allowed to do that to avoid, or in addition to, registering for the nonexistent draft, then even if a draft were instituted you wouldnt be called upon
I believe ill register as a coward then. To not fight wars to further a corporate governments agenda.
haha..funny.. a coward for not wanting to kill your fellow human brother that share the earth...if that is what a coward is..then I am definitely proud to be a coward...I am not one to finish the duration of my life bloodguilty.
You can only register as a conscientious objector once you have been drafted. But that was then. This is not a free country anymore. It never was, really, but even less now.
yeah. if im ever in danger of being drafted, ill just cross the border and hop on a plane to NZ or UK.
http://usmilitary.about.com/cs/wars/a/draft2.htm CONSEQUENCES FOR NOT REGISTERING The maximum penalty for failing to register with Selective Service is a $250,000 fine and up to five years in prison. Failure to register will cause ineligibility for a number of federal and state benefits including: FEDERAL JOBS A man must be registered to be eligible for jobs in the Executive Branch of the Federal government and the U.S. Postal Service. This applies only to men born after December 31, 1959. STUDENT FINANCIAL AID Men who are not registered with Selective Service cannot obtain Federal student loans or grants. This includes Pell Grants, College Work Study, Guaranteed Student/Plus Loans, and National Direct Student Loans. CITIZENSHIP The U.S. Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS) makes registration with Selective Service a condition for U.S. citizenship, if the man first arrived in the U.S. before his 26th birthday and was required to register. FEDERAL JOB TRAINING The Workforce Investment Act (formerly JTPA) offers important job-training opportunities. This program is only open to those men who register with Selective Service. STATE JOBS, LOANS, AND TRAINING Most states have added additional penalties for those who fail to register with Selective Service. STATE DRIVER'S LICENSE LEGISLATION As of May 16, 2002, 19 states, 2 territories, and the District of Columbia have enacted driver's license laws supporting Selective Service registration. They are Oklahoma, Delaware, Arkansas, Utah, Georgia, Hawaii, Alabama, Florida, Colorado, Texas, Louisiana, Illinois, Ohio, South Dakota, Mississippi, Idaho, Virginia, Wisconsin, New Hampshire, the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, and the Virgin Islands.
Rat is correct. Best you can do is register and hope for the best. Canada is never far away (if it really exists).
I would never run if I was drafted..just do my jail time and make my stand...refusing to go to war used to be around a year in jail...I am not sure what it is now.
Ha ha. I had to laugh because that was exactly what happened to me. I enlisted at 17 they started looking for me a year and a half later. My dad told them repeatedly on the phone that I was in the navy, but they still came looking to arrest me. When they finally showed up at my parents house my dad handed them a photo of me on my ship off the coast of Italy and shut the door. Morons is right. If I'm not mistaken I think the University of AK won't even allow you to register for classes if you aren't registered with the SS.
