Yeah I agree posting yumyum's photo was uncalled for. (though it did give me a little chuckle TBH) no offense of course. I personally could give two shits about what religion somebody chooses as long as they don't try and evangelize. As long as noone is pushing their religious beliefs on me no harm no foul. I have my own reservations about white middle class kids who claim to practice "Rastafarianism" (lol) but I'll keep them private unless provoked. :cheers2:
I think we all have those 'reservations' brother but I believe the best way to help people that have been mislead is to discuss it with them and share the experiences you have learnt. When you properly educate somebody on Rastafari, they no longer become a 'wannabe white kid' hahha. Its not so much as being a 'wannabe' or whatever but actually finding information on the Rastafari faith can be a hard task in itself so its no wonder that kids stumble across Bob Marley as the most obvious and direct means of learning. I personally study Religion and Faith as a hobby and as part of my job training so I made a thorough research into Rastafari itself. I appreciate you not jumping on the 'lets slag off people for what they believe' bandwagon which so many others do.
Just like every other christian out there chooses which parts of the bible they're going to obey? ahh I love it when people hand me Jesus pamphlets :smilielol5:
Did you just try to compare your suffering to that of blacks' ancestors? LMFAO I just stopped reading there...
uh. no, he said nothing of the sort. He said EVERYONE SUFFERS. as in everyone can feel pain and sorrow. You look real good there. and good point, Blacks ANCESTORS, which would be, not blacks today, who still have the same views or religions of thoes back in the day. So basically blacks today are trying to compare their suffereing to that of their ancestors???? I can make no sence out of what you said..... at any rate, go ahead and finish reading.
no he was pointing out that everyone suffers. black ancestors had it rough. Blacks still have it rough with all the institutionalized rascism that goes unquestioned and is accepted by most. but we all have it rough. unless your names siddhartha or your the dalai lama...we all live in our mental prisons and perpetuate our own suffering.
uhhh he definitely said "And you say 'we dont know what kind of persecution black people go through' well heres a wake up for ya.....Everyone suffers," Sounds like he's trying to justify that shit...if you think that you, as a white male, have suffered as much as a black female, you are GREATLY misunderstanding the world. I would say quit studying Rastafarianism and spend more time looking up things that affect those beliefs... lmfao, and to you legal_rasta trying to help reinforce that whites go through suffering just as blacks do - I suggest a history book.
Hopefully you are meaning how some people like to start random and unnecessary trouble? The wonders of the internet. Atleast people act how they really are. ?
I don't not call people out on their hypocritical nature in real life if I feel they deserve it. Most of the time the hypocrites are the way they are because they aren't very intelligent. The internet provides a veil that, for the most part, can make dumb people come off as somewhat coherent.
I may be in denial, though I don't think I am (and of course someone in denial would say that ) but, I think I can say I'm 100% happy, and I don't really suffer. I've been blessed with the life I have and don't agree with the Buddhist philosophy that life is suffering. The only reason I say this is because of my own personal experiences. I'd have to say that I love being alive and feel fortunate that I am getting the chance to experience it. If I'm brainwashed or ignorant of my own suffering, I'm not complaining because I feel great! the rambling ends.... now! edit: WOW THIS THREAD MOVES FAST... heres the post i was referring to
^Buddhism is very strange...there are a lot of things that are said but they mean something completely different than what you initially obtain from it. Life is suffering, but can you have suffering without happiness? Can you not have life without death? It is a very "full circle" way of thought.
As are many people. The "circle" perspective of life is very ancient, however and is a natural thought/belief pattern in all humans. If you were to study it I'm sure you would change the way you look at some things - it's hard not to because it fits so simplistically and really is adaptable to your own personal ideas...how do you think so many religions were created?
I will admit to finding it strange that white people have "adopted" a belief system that was built upon the suffering of blacks, but I will also admit to not knowing very much (other than the basics) about the Rastafari movement, so I reserve further judgment. I do see a lack of tact in the original post and his subsequent ones, and I also cannot find a point to this thread other than to offend people. I did have to comment on the fact that comparing a white man's suffering to a black man's is totally off-base. It's like watering down the suffering the Jews experienced because of the Holocaust (and centuries of oppression) to the suffering of Christians. Yes, everyone suffers, but there are different degrees of suffering that you truly cannot understand unless you've lived it, or have a deep personal connection to it. Yet at the same time, I also think a modern day black man (while still having to deal with serious injustices because of his skin tone) would be insane to insinuate that his suffering is comparable to how much his ancestors have had to deal with in the past. Some things are just so horrible that you can't understand.
I've taken anthropological classes on Religion and I know all about the "circle" mentality. I know western perspectives of time come across as very bizarre to many other cultures but for my brain viewing life as a linear function with a beginning and end (though dips and doodles in the middle are bound to happen) is currently most natural. (probably due to my conditioning of course, but everyone's perspective is dependent on their experiences) I'm happy with my current view of the universe and life, and proud to say I will be the first to admit that my attitudes and beliefs will undoubtedly change through life. I'm rambling again.
