This movie is one of the all time greats. The music. The visuals. The Story. It's all amazing. I think it should be required viewing at least once a month. (stoned of course).

That movie is awsome so much depth and hidden meaning. I'm not a huge Pink Floyd fan but they were so different and talented.

Is there any nice bonus stuff on the DVD? I've seen the movie about 20 some times including midnight theatre showings and laser light show viewings while blown out on acid, lol. The good ol days...

I have it on vhs, just wondering if its worth upgrading to dvd for.

The video to Hey You alone is enough to get the DVD, but yea, theres some good extra interviews and stuff on the DVD.

But The Wall is 1 of the best films ever, the album is a milestone in music, the concerts were something on their own and the movie is like no other movie made. I mean, how many movies do you know where the story line is told only through lyrics in songs, the way flashbacks and symbolism is used, and the split in it between reality and animation is great.

the wall is awesome, the story, the way the music tells the story, i think it communicates meaning better than any dialogue they could have had!

has anyone on this ENTIRE hipforums NOT seen The Wall? go and get it right now if you haven't, or even if you have!

Yeah, there was already a post about this about a week ago man. You really should search the forums before posting. Not being mean, just saying.

Anyway, to indulge you, I love the movie. I don't see much hidden meaning though. It's about a rock star named Pink Floyd who loses his dad in the beginning of his life to a bombing raid in World War II. It simply chronicles his young life, and his experiences of loss (his father, his pet, his woman) leading up to the final scenes where he suddenly breaks free from the restraints of the social barrier he'd built up for himself and so long been forced to hide behind. The social barrier being "The Wall". I think the hotel scene was supposed to be the initial beginning of the end. I like that flip out scene, it's pretty cool. The scene with the judge and the fat woman was pretty obvious. The judge was his old school principle (which was a subtltey referring to all people in his life) and the fat woman was his mother. I think the whole "Nazi" theme with the hammers and all were just supposed to symbolize his memories of the people who murdered his father and the bird was obviously supposed to be a fighter plane. The end when he smashes himself into the wall and breaks it down is just him finally coming to terms with himself, his past and all his loss and breaking down the social barrier.

I'm told if you play to Dark Side of the Moon album it syncs up, but never the wall album.

yeah it's Dark Side of the Moon not the Wall. I've done it. It's not crazy or anything, it just syncs up and it's kinda funny.

I used to love the Wall but one time I watched it tripping and it just made me mad. All the things I thought I didn't understand came to me and I was disappointed in what I found. A lot of the movie is so negative. Actually I can't think of anything positive about the movie. I still listen to the music but I try not to focus on the "story" it tells. By the way, if you ask any of the members of the band now, THEY don't even get what the point of the story was. So, in my opinion, the Wall means nothing. It was somebody's bad trip.

The Wall has a deep meaning, and the band probably can't figgure it out since Roger wrote the whole thing lyrically, same goes with Dark Side, Wish Yo Were here, Animals and The Final Cut, as for the actual movie, I'm pretty sure none of the other band members had any input in the movie other then Roger. As for the negative message in it, almost none of Pink Floyd's music has a positive message in it. The movie isn't meant to be a comedy.

In an interview with Roger.. he said himself that he doesn't remember what it all meant. If it doesn't mean that much to him anymore it doesn't mean shit to me but some good tunes.

It has plenty of meaning to it, I can't imagine Rogers saying that.. It's not neccesarily a deep meaning, I mean the story is pretty obvious. Definatley one of the best modern rock operas, right up there with Tommy.
