I want to sell my paintings on the side and i have talent i just lack inspiration, i love to paint and draw and once i start one i'm good but it's coming up with what to draw/paint that's the problem...
Emotions guide me. That's part of the reason why I will stop working on one drawing and start a new one.
oh man same. I still have like, 2 unfinished. and another one i got uninterested in so i tossed it. (as in just erased the outlining) Emotions usually provoke them, but sometimes I see something and make something off of it. And you know how before you go to sleep, you see all of these random images? It's so awesome. one of my favorite paintings is a simple, bold colored one, but its really interesting to me and its something I saw one night when i was about ot go to sleep. and I wsa like, "IVE GOTTA PAINT THAT!". And once I was compelled to make a very detailed painting, as more of a technique thing. no inspiration so usually my emotions and things that I see.
Nature, pure and simple, there is no greater source of natural beauty I try to get into a headspace where I'm just letting my senses pick-up on suddle patterns. Sometimes it feels like I'm just a vehicle for creativity, and that the whole process is disconnected from ego or typical consious thaught. It's the same process whether I'm sketching a creekbed or making architecural drawings, it's a process of observation and reflection, I try to leave my ego and emotions out of the whole thing.
there are many ways to achieve this.. me personally.. i try and meditate and start doodling or sketching in my brain.. or, i listen to certain music and close my eyes and the sounds provoke patterns and ideas .. diff colors come about. another thing i do is make blots of black, or smear lead or charcoal across a paper and then create with whatever came out go to the beach.. NATURE helps! good luck
The world, the news, my personal experiences, and of course, as stated by posters before me, emotion. I usually use things that otherwise I don't act towards. Such as, I wouldn't say I'm an animal rights activist, but I have two or three animal-rights-influenced paintings. Strange stuff is inspiration, I guess. Art inspires art.
animals always seem to work. For me, analyzing something so different from myself really gets the brain going! Watching their movements and trying to figure out their personalities on paper is such a cool experience.
