    Hey Dreadies.

I am in a down mood right now and alot of signs are pointing to me that I should cut all my hair off and start from scratch.

What I wanna know is.....have any of you had these thoughts before? that you just need a fresh start?

Because for me the growing my hair and the preparation involved and the patience etc.... was the best part, but now ive got dreads I want to start over again.

Is it right? or is it wrong? I also wanna know if anybody knows of any Rastafarians that have cut their dreads off but still believe in the faith because I am a firm believer in Rastafari and I dont know how I will be judged.

    Thanks for your help.

Its just so damn hard to find a job right now and having dreads is just making it even harder. In this world, as much as I hate it, you kinda NEED money. I just dont know what to do.

I have so many for and against arguements. Its so confusing.

everyone has days when there down on their hair regardless of if they are dreaded or not, however, if you have these thoughts for a long time cut them if its just now then dont. not sure about the rastafarian thing, but if i was you id express my faith in my own way, all religions have guidelines on how to live and be a good person, im not saying abandon your faith but you should in my opinion anyway be able to not have dreads and still worship whatever or whoever it is you do. this is just my opinion but i think its kinda silly that you have to have your hair a certain way to be part of the religion. it sounds very childhood playgroundy but please dont take any offense from that statement, it is not directed at anyone

I've thought about it, but I'm too attatched to them and wouldn't want to lose them, they've all got their own unique lumps and bumps and along with that I don't think i could cut them off anyway, it would be the first time having short hair in almost 6 years, so i think my dreads and before them long hair are a big part of me, even if just on the aesthetic side, but obviously the job side is a strong persuader, either way i hope your happy with which way you choose to go.

Are you actually really struggling to find work because of your hair? I find people really don't discriminate that much, but i guess its different in different areas

I had similar thoughts when I had my first set of locks. As soon as I cut them off, I regretted it and started growing my hair out.
I've had my second set of dreads for over 4 years, and I have never thought about cutting them off.

I sometimes want to comb mine out just because there really heavy to head bang with. Long straight hair would be sweet for that but I always end up loving my dreads again the next day

I can't imagine cutting mine out and would never want to...........I love my hair and don't ever want to have 'normal' hair again. Before I dreaded my hair I had it in all crazy colours and when I went back to brown I felt so bla and normal. I'd say you'd realli miss them if you cut em ;)

"It's not the dread upon your head, but the love inna your heart, that mek ya Rastaman" - Sugar Minott
if you're worried about not being accepted by other rastas if you do cut them hopefully that helps!

as far as getting a job there has to be plenty these days that will let you have dreads. if they don't you gotta ask yourself if it's worth it. our society tells us we need money when we really don't, so the least we can do is make it in a way that pleases our heart. if they won't let you have dreads chances are there are bigger underlying differences in their ideals and yours. you gotta ask yourself if that's something you can put up with in a job or not.

i think just about every dreadhead considers cutting their dreads at some point or another, but you can't change the dreads, you've gotta let them change you!

    good luck!

dreads should not be a factor in you getting a job, ESPECIALLY as a Rastafarian (is that right?)...someone not hiring you based on your hair, since you are following religious beliefs, would mean that they are not an equal rights and opportunities employer...of course, when it comes to the hiring process they can easily blame it on any number of things aside from the hair, no matter what the real reasons were...

i know how ya feel in the job situation though...my current employer won't let me dread my hair, and i havent had a whole lot of success finding something that will cover bills AND allow dreadlocks :/

so completely counting the job thing out, well, if the rewarding part of having dreadlocks to you was the initial forming of the dreads, i see no reason why re-taking that journey would be a bad thing...

however, cutting your dreads off to restart the journey would also end the current journey that you're already on...dreads are neverending, until you go completely bald :)

any religion that judges you based on what your hair looks like is bullshit. any rasta who says that you are not a part of his religion solely because you do not have the same hair as he is truly no rastafarian. if you are clean, healthy, and true to your soul, then you are fine. dreading because you feel obliged to is silly. i think you should cut your hair if you think it is right for you. and don't worry - if you feel rasta, you is rasta.

Thanks to everyone for their feedback and responses.

I decided this morning that I would have it all cut off and start again from scratch and it sounds strange but I feel free haha.

I am so looking forward to starting the journey again and I will have better experience for next time. The best thing about cutting them out was that I can give my head a really good scratch!!

Thanks again everyone and even though im not a dreadlock anymore for the time being at least, I would still much like to comment on the dready pages :)
