I submitted my request on ticketmaster for red rocks at exactly 12 noon and got denied. And from reading some stuff online it seems like the same happened to pretty much everyone. Then tickets started going up on ebay for thousands each....does anyone agree that tickets should just have your name printed on them to prevent this cutthroat scalping? Simply not fair. Ebay certainly isn't an option. I wish there was an affordable way to get them, I really do, but I just don't think it's gonna happen. Anyone else get screwed?
I completely agree. I also think that Ebay should not allow scalping, that artists should ensure there are enough places at concerts for their fans, and that online ticket selling is not a fair way to distribute tickets.
No, I don't think that is practical. Hope for a miracle, go to bonnaroo, or wait till they come around again. Don't give in to the scalping.
I have tickets for Phish in berrrrrgistown pa. http://shop.ticketluck.com/ResultsTicket.php?evtid=990918 and I think theres a shit load left too..
I agree with what you are saying about ebay. They used to crack down, but not anymore I guess. Phish would love to book a huge venue in every city, but there just aren't enough huge venues that A: want to book phish B:are not already booked: C: that are much bigger than what phish already have booked. The online ticket selling is the only way unfortunately. All major large venues have contracts with ticketmaster/live nation. A very large portion of the tickets of every artist that plays these venues have to be sold on ticketmaster. Its a tragedy. At least phish distributes the few tickets that they get fairly. they get about 1/5 of the tickets for each show to distribute, and they do it by lottery, completely random. EDIT: I forgot to add that all these scalping site are sister companies of ticketmaster. Ticket master sell a portion of there 4/5 of the tickets on ticketmast.com, and sells the rest for a very high mark up in their sister companies.
Actually, Phish's following is probably more annoying.... mostly a bunch of drugged out joiners from the suburbs with yuppie parents.
Its unlikely, but if I ever organize a venue, play in a band or work for a record company, I would do everything in my power to ensure some sort of return to fair ticket sales.
I was hoping to request tickets for the late summer concerts, but just missed the deadline, so tomorrow I have to hope for the best when they go on sale publicly. I got to see all three shows here in Hampton...but I'd like to get to them again this year.
While there are some real cliche (and annoying) fans, the music itself, some of it, really isn't that bad. The earlier stuff before the huge following was interesting. I went to a GD show (minus Jerry) and found the culture outside the show (tailgating and the like) interesting enough. Though I was a little younger, maybe 19 or 20.
shit like this is why i won't go. i like some of their music, but this thievery and people only going for the drugs = fuck that
It's not just ebayers, some of the ticket agencies are at it as well. They sell out, and then when you call them asking for tickets at 2 minutes past the hour they pass you onto another site that charges three times the price. Another site that is owned by the ticket agency.
