the dreaded shrinkage

does everyone's hair shrink massively? or is it people with fine, relatively sparse hair that experience the most shrinkage? that would make sense to me. i have very thick hair and haven't experienced as much shrinkage as i though i would.

 

i finally got around to doing some dread maintenence last night.... gawd, i'm lazy! LOL! anyways, SHRINKAGE!!! man. some of the dreads at the back of my head are just a few inches long.... sigh..... GROW HAIR GROW!!!

 

Nope, my hair is thick too and no shrinking. Finally seems to be growing some. However I read yesterday that the shrinking occurs in the 6-12th months...so maybe it just has not hit me yet

 

all the sets ive had had only negligible shrinkage. and started growing fast right after.

 

and i have some new loops i never noticed before too guess it's time to take some pics!

 

I Feel like my hair hasnt grown at all in months.

When i was just a few months in, people asked me if i cut my hair (mostly people who didnt understand dreadlocks....so i guess most people) causefor a few minutes only the topish layers of the back of my head was matting, and then all of a sudden the bottom did and kind of got sucked up with the rest, so it looked like i got some cut.

THis shows how fucking dumb CO's (corrections officers) are. Bitch asked me if i cut my hair. Yeah you fucking dumbass i just have some biggass siccors in my cell you didnt notice. Same dolt also said there was no gravity on the moon when i was trying to explain to some kids that all objects fall at the same rate regardless of mass (if you disclude air resistance) and cited the example of the feather and hammer on the moon.

Seriously, this is like BASIC, BASIC fucking science and people dont fucking have a clue about goddamn near anything.

 

actually, when looking at my whole head in general, i really havn't lost any length in comparison to the initial dreading process.... there are just a couple that seem to be rock hard and shrunken....

 

I had serious shrinkage between 6 months - 1 year. It shrank so much that people thought I had cut them. My hair is very fine & curly, so maybe it has alot to do with your hair type.

 

how old are yours? mine are five months. maybe they're behind schedule. but you seem to have similar hair to me.... mine seems to be growing a lot, too.

yeah, i'm right around 5 months, i guess we'll just see what happenes... but i have a feeling they aren't gonna shrink much, i'm keeping the tips prettymuch undreaded.

yes mine have thinned out a lot too. they are starting to get really round. i love the look of loose roots and ends, but for some reason mine dread so close to my scalp it's actually painful in some places. maybe it's the beads...

 

I had long straight hair and it has shrunk to high fuck. None of it's any longer than 1/2 its original length.

 

Damn mine too..I sometimes get headaches...like the kind ya get when ya wear a tight pony tail all freakin day. Aghhhhhhhhhhhh

 

i think the most extreme shrinkage ive seen has been with fine, thin hair. my hair is very thick and coarse and i didnt really have any shrinkage that i noticed... except now the ends are looping and rounding so i suppose that will end with loss of length.

 

I have/had long fine bone straight hair. It was past the middle of my back and in the first three months it shrank sooo much. The longest dread is just past my chin and shortest is only a few inches long. Friends asked me if I chopped it all off. I really think you hair type has a lot to play with in the dreading process. Can't wait for some growth!

 

yeah. same, long and fine, bone straight. lost about half my length... but mostly all is good except for a couple that sucked themselves pretty much into stubs compared to what they used to be.
