So yesterday I started my new job so me, along w/ the 4 other people that were starting had to go through this 'orientation' thing. Basically it was the head guy skimming through the employee handbook & telling us shit. But it was hilarious when he got to the section about drugs & alcohol. He was just like yeah, you can't drink or do drugs on the property. And you shouldn't drink or do anything before you come into work. I would hate for you to be hungover or something and driving one of the forklifts & hit a kid, that would be awful. So if you're hungover or too messed up to come in, just call in say you're not coming in b/c we would rather have you just stay at home to re cooperate than come in hungover & not be able to work effectively. The funniest thing was that the whole time he was just monotone & just had like a whatever, this is retarded attitude. And it turns out that a dude I went to high school w/ is working w/ me, so that's pretty tight. I know he smoked bud in high school, so assuming he still does it'll be cool to work w/ a friend that actually likes 2 smoke up so we can always go & chill after work.
That's how more managers should be towards company policies. The hardware store I used to work at had paid no attention to any policies. Iit had to be the chillest place ever.
The funny thing is he's an ex-cop. So I dunno for what reason he quit, but he seems pretty cool w/ most shit. He was even talking about how he loves to hear stories about shitty customers b/c they're always good for a laugh.
I work at a massive garden center-it's literally acres big. For right now I'm helping unload shit from the warehouse & set up stuff. In a few weeks though once pretty much all the big shit (like the fountains & crap) are unloaded & set up I'm being moved to the annuals section. So basically I'll be walking around, watering, & helping people pick out flowers. The only thing that kind of sucks is I have to know literally hundreds of different types of flowers. But whatever, I actually know a lot of 'em already, so its all good. That & everyone says if you don't know the answer to a question either just tell them that you're new, or just find someone who does know the answer & pass the customer off to them.
^ lol i do that every day at my job. these people come in giving me specific product names, not like aspirin or tylenol but fucking medical supplies and shit and i'm like WTF I DON'T KNOW!!!!
