Can you beat a pregnant woman if she's kin?

My sister.
She's so....not mature enough to be a mother.
And, that's not just because she's my sister, promise.

Everytime I talk to her, I just want to hit her. She already has one kid, he just turned 1. She's pregnant with baby 2 and due in June.
While pregnant with her first, she smoked like a freight train, DRANK whiskey, and then complained like she was the only person EVER that has been pregnant.
She told me all of this stuff that her doctor had told her to do....such as DRINK CASTOR OIL to have her son sooner because she was just so tired and if she went to her due date (10 days later) then she wouldn't have enough energy to make it through labor and she'd have to have an emergency c-section, she said he told her that if her baby was born at 35 weeks, the baby would be alright....she thinks it's fine because my dad survived being a preemie at 27 weeks...., she is taking FLINSTONE vitamins and says they'll do the exact same thing for her that prenates will....
Come to find out it was her dumb freaking MIL that told her all of this and my sister is too chicken shit to tell me about it because I have called this woman before and given her a good what'for.
With this baby, she's STILL smoking like a freight train, and still hooked on Thelma for her vitamins. She also cleans with abrasive products, like bleach, and says it won't hurt her because it's lemon scent! ARE YOU KIDDING ME?

She's so mean to my nephew. She calls him a bastard and a fucker and everything.

Sorry....I cussed. I just needed....to vent.

take your nephew you out on a few trips...
talk to your parents... tell them how you feel. they probably feel the same way.

I've never gotten to meet my nephew. Next week will be the first time.
She didn't talk to us (me, mom, dad) forever. When I went to the hospital when she had my nephew, she told me to leave that she didn't want me there. So, I will definitely have him a lot before she leaves again (back to Cali in June after baby 2 is born).

That is absolutely horrible.... I'm not one to encourage people to be sterilized, but there's no way she should be having kids.... I'm afraid to ask, but what about the father?

 

I second the CPS thing. And if you don't want to do it, send ME her name and contact info, and I'll do it. No children deserve that treatment!

If I understand the OP,

the sister smokes while pregnant
the sister drinks while pregnant
the sister complains while pregnant (unlike every other woman?)
the sister follows her doctor's advice (even though the OP disagrees with that advice)
the sister takes brand name multi-vitamins
the sister follows the advice of an older woman (who's been pregnant before)
the sister doesn't tell this to the OP, because the OP yells at people
the sister cleans with bleach
the sister yells at her kid

Therefore the pregnant sister is a bad person and (in lieu of a beating) should be turned into CPS?

CPS sounds like the better option.

My sister DOESN'T follow the doctors advice, if you re-read, my sister blames the FALSE information on her doctor when really, it's her mother in law....who, unless you know her, you can't says she's a woman whose advice you should follow.
And, it's not JUST the yelling, calling a year old baby a bastard and a fucker is the problem....the kid will have a complex by 5.
And, the OP yells at STUPID people.
And, not every woman complains while pregnant....I had a wonderful pregnancy.
Also, Flinstone vitamins hardly compare to the vitamins of vitamins intended for pregnant women.

 

You don't think the doctor told her this?
Do you think the doctor didn't tell her the baby woud be fine at 35 weeks? Or do did the doctor tell a pregnant woman that the fetus was in trouble?

BTW, the kid did get out OK, correct? Proper number of fingers, toes etc? If so, I guess what your sister did while pregnant worked.

If you've never met the kid, how did you get to experience mom call it a bastard and a fucker, or is these the words she uses to describe the kid to others rather than what she uses when the kid can hear?
(Side note: the existence of a mother-in-law means that "bastard" is inaccurate.)

Where are you getting this info about her pregnancy?

(I still think that calling CPS is better than beating her.)

 

Man.... I think the OP was just expressing some frustration. Read the post again and I think you'll understand why. I don't think she intends to beat up her pregnant sister.

 

I think you may have missed a few points.

As for the sister smoking and drinking while pregnant, where have you been? Both smoking and drinking while pregnant can cause retardation in the child!

The Doctor's advice that she following is not a Doctor's but her MIL.

The older woman's advice sounds a little outdated and maybe even harmful.

Talking about using bleach to clean with, it can be easily absorbed into the skin and that may not be all that healthy for her unborn child.

And the sister is not just yelling at the child but is being verbally toxic; calling him a "bastard and a fucker and everything", which some would say is emotional child abuse.

The problems caused by smoking and drinking while pregnant don't show up in the number of fingers and toes, it show up later as the child starts to grow up and has learning disablities.

 

I think the motivation for this thread had more to do with sibling rivalry than Parenting. (Or MIL rivalry or...)

I'm not comfortable with even well meaning people to take charge of other's lives.

Nope, mom ain't perfect. Had mom posted, she would have gotten all kinds of info about the dangers of smoking, bleach and mass produced vitamins.

But sis posted. Mom doesn't want advice from sis. Mom kicked sis out of the hospital. Mom knows sis better than we do.

I hoped that my version of the list of activites would counteract the hyperbolic version in the OP, without contracting what was said or minimizing the facts.

I went with my gut instinct to stand up for/protect the pregnant woman from the lynch mob that was forming.

Mom has a doctor and an older (i.e. she's been there/done that) caring woman to turn to. If folks (including sisters) want to yell at her, anywhere she can't hear (like this forum) is the best place for it. But hassling pregnant women is not kindness.

Personally, I don't think I said that I condoned her wanting to beat her sister nor did I suggest she call the CPS. So no, I don't think I was part of any lynch mob.

But I will say that a pregnant woman smoking and drinking is repugnant to me and that goes for verbally abusing a child with toxic language as well.

I feel that a person should be free to raise their child as they see fit and so don't interfere unless I feel it is a life or death matter but I can understand what the OP is feeling.

 

The bottom line is that the women is not fit to raise children if this is how she acts towards her born and unborn children! I think children's services should be called...the kids need a better chance than she is willing to offer. Being a mother, I feel I have the right to share my opinion.
