    Myself:

Martin Eden by Jack London - If you don't know already, it is the romantic story of a young, poor, almost illiterate sailor who attempts to educate himself in order to impess a woman from a well to do family, only to become rejected by her parents and find that he is frighteningly more intelligent than almost everybody he knows.

The Crossing, and Cities of the Plain by Cormac Mcarthy

I have had a few ideas about real life stories that I wanted to be made into movies but I forgot what they were.

I also would love for somebody to make a mini-series based on One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, which follows the story almost literally and recreates all of the Chief's hallucinations.

a modern interpretation... maybe make it darker and more from Chiefs point of view... I would love to dig on that.

Even though Anne Rice is kinda lame, the one book of hers that stands out to me is Memnoch the Devil. It takes Bible mythology and turns it into a conversation with satan as he explains his own righteousness to Le'stat.
With modern day CG, this movie could turn the landscape of heaven and hell into an eye opener. Not to mention how awesome it would be to see Satan (Memnoch) and Le'stat traveling through different eras of humanity.

If I had more time and my brain was working I would give you a whole list of good ones.

    City of God
Factotum (not the best movie ever, but a good job considering how awesome the book is)
    The Tin Drum
    The Motorcycle Diaries
One Flew over the Cuckoo's Nest
    The Thin Red Line
Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas
    Before Night Falls
    Trainspotting
The Graduate (The book is fantastic and not read often enough)

Just the beginning....I'm sure I've missed hundreds,

It's obscure, but I recently read Baldwin & Powers Last Flag Down, a history of the cruise of the CSS Shenandoah, a Confederate commerce raider. Sailed west around the world from London to Liverpool, fired the last shot of the Civil War in August of '65 in the Arctic Ocean. Took 10 Yankee whalers in one day. Almost attacked San Fransisco. Ended up being hunted as a pirate vessel, as most of the vessels she took were taken after the war was officially over. The officers and men were acquitted by a British court. It would make a great movie, especially since no one but serrious geeks knows anything about Civil War naval history, beyond Monitor v Merrimack.

Forever War & Foundation would also make excellent movies, ya goldurn geek. Hey, didn't Niven sell movie rights to Ringworld? I believe I remember hearing an interview with him where he said it was going to be animee, because nobody but a Japaneese animator could draw a Pupeteer.

a not crap Dune would be phenomenal. ideally multiple movies covering at least the first 3 books, although that would leave out my favorite 3 lol.

Of Polanski's films I have only ever seen Chinatown, which I loved.

    To Kill a Mockingbird
Streetcar Named Desire (based on a play but still...)
    Apocolypse Now
    Amelie
    No Country for Old Men
    Silence of the Lambs
    Dune
    Kes
    Storm Boy
    Breaker Morant

I still think I have missed hundreds of better movies.

Have you seen "He died with a Felafal in his Hand"? You would like it.

    that's one of my favorites.

no, but you aren't the first person who told me to see it.
when I return the films I took from the library I'll see if they have it.

They probably won't, its hard enough to find here, but not too hard. You could probably pick it up at a good DVD store if you are bothered to pay. It is a great movie.

i would love to see "The master and margarita" on screen. but i guess like most movies made from books it will be a great disappointment.
there was a book called "the Celestine prophecy" i`ve read a long time ago. i think the story is perfect for a movie.
