Honestly, I think you kind of sound like a bitter old man when you say these things. It's pretty judgmental. By blanketing a lot of talented, awesome and independent thinking people out in the world you may not be seeing the good in everyone that you have yet to be acquainted with.

It's simple -- being true to oneself.... being an individual as opposed to following everyone else's lead. Not doing what others say you "should" do, but rather what YOU feel is right as an individual. People base abnormal versus normal, not on information and knowledge, but rather what everyone else does and says. There is individuality and then there is groupthink. People are inclined to do whatever everyone else is doing because that is what results in the most favorable outcome. If you want people to like you and think you're "normal," you're going to do and say whatever they do. It's all about following the leader.
