Hello, there, a Detroit hippie saying hello to the forum. We've got a great community here in the Motor city. In fact tonight, they have the big weekly drum circle down at the Golden Gate Cafe, but I was too tired to go. I love belly dancing at drum circles. It makes my spirit fly. the Motor City really needs that type of energy. always has. I came here because I felt like meeting new people. (I can't say 'like minded' because I've always had a bit of alienation when it came to some groups of hippies. I don't let it stop me. I've been alienated my whole life everywhere anyway). I'm into organic vegan cooking (thought I don't drink or smoke enough to be a vegan) and herbalism, as well as having been a practicing witch for over 3 decades. I'm also into science fiction, Star Trek, (and making Gene Roddenberry's utopian vision of Earth a reality some century) and I'm into technology. (I'm not alone there in the hippie community. There are groups of us Trek hippies). I'm just a hippie space chick. Got thrown off of a Trek networking site for calling myself that. Turned out the owner was a Republican who didn't want hippies on his network. My first bad experience among the Trekkies in 40 years. But I am what I am and I will not deny my soul what it is either. My soul likes to reach out into the ether and the astral and dance and guide me and give me purpose, and only certain hippies seem to understand that and provide a place where that can happen for me. The drum circles do it every time for me. I work in a Health Food Store. (Yeah. I have a job. someone's got to pay for the welfare. Some hippies have called me "bad hippie" but I'm too healthy and stable to collect from the government). I work in a vitamin department helping the people of Detroit heal themselves and explore alternative diets and remedies. It is so fulfilling. (I don't play doctor, though. My fellow hippies in the industry don't get that). Well, I'm going to poke around here and see what happens.
I lived in A2 for two years in college back in the mid-80s and I go up there every once in a while. One of my friends who grew up there says, "Growing up in Ann Arbor screws you up because you believe the world is just perfect." He says he had culture shock when he left the first time. anyhow, enjoy that city. It's a blessing.
hello and welcome to hip forums. i am a trekker and a major fan of science fiction. i agree some "trek" sites seem to be a bit conservative considering what roddenberry's vision.
Hello! I'm fairly new to Metro Detroit, in Sterling Heights and I don't know anything about the hippie community around here. I'm interested in that drum circle, to say the least.
