I just read an expression from an OP on another forum who was trashing a movie, "This movie licks balls ..." I asked my young co-worker if she had ever heard that expression and she said "sucks balls" is how she heard it. So, I took the OP to task saying I lick and suck balls and consider that a good thing. Is this a common expression? First time I've seen it. Now considering that girls may lick or suck balls, I wouldn't want to tag it as homophobic in origin, but somehow when a young man says it I get that impression. What does anyone know about the expression? I already know about licking and sucking balls - it feels good and is fun. (BTW I also lick pussy and suck clits).
Its a common expression among young adults in my generation. It is homophobic in origin. Other expressions conveying the same meaning: "This sucks dick", "That sucks cock", etc etc. To me, its an immature attempt by primarily youngsters to appear more mature(cool) by adding a curse word to the end of an already acceptable expression to express displeasure/negative experience.
I first heard it on south park, now I use it all the time... it's a great expression because it sounds good. The meaning and origin become somewhat irrelevant when a phrase like that takes off, these things take on a life of their own.
I'm 27. Call me old fashioned, but I don't say "sucks" either. I rarely use profanity either, except when I'm injured or working on home improvement projects. People who cuss constantly usually aren't the sharpest knives in the drawer.
Constantly yes, but swear words are a wonderfully rich addition to any vocabulary because of their remarkably emphatic expressive power...
You could say that about any word. Surely the point is to use a wide, rich and varied vocabulary, not ruling out any form of expression.
Well man, I can honestly say I've never used those terms of expression, I've heard them used plenty, even by older people (like 60+) but I find them offensive personally, so I try to avoid them, granted I don't cuss much anyway
No, you really can't say the exact same thing about any word -- although there are certainly words that are overused. The reason profanity had impact at one point was because is was considered poor taste, crude and ill mannered. So it was seldom used. So when the words were used, they did have some impact. Now, you've got 8 years olds saying "fuck you." Another reason I don't use profanity is because it's bad manners and still offensive to some people. Yes, that's what I said. Offensive. And my vocabulary is rich and varied enough without it. An exception might be this forum. I'm going to say fucking when I'm talking about fucking.
