Ok, so i get the main argument, dont say something is gay when you mean its stupid. Now, I am straight, but I have nothing against gay people, i have gay friends, some are out of the closet, and others - well - havent admitted it yet, but everyone knows. I say stuff/people/places/ideas/ect are gay. I tell friends to stop being faggots when they are being retarded (another politically incorrect statement...who cares, i know i dont). Now of course I think its wrong when someone refers to a gay guy as a faggot, not because he is acting stupid, but because he is actually gay. But when you dont mean it as a derogatory term how is it a bad thing? shit, when my gay friends do something stupid i tell them not to be gay. IMO, its just the world and the time we live in, saying something is 'gay' will not always be popular, it will run its course and a new saying will become popular. Im sure its gonna be unpopular in a few decades, just like 'Groovy'. So, tell me, because i really am interested and curious, why do you find it offensive when someone says something is gay or someone is being a fag? Why cant it just be a word. I mean, people get so bent out of shape over the word fu<k, I mean its funny to think about, because its just a word for god sake, never has it hurt anyone...ever
Not so much that its offensive, more we dont want to see you get yourself ruffled up. use the word faggot and both the gay guys and girls are just going to assume you are struggling with those issues yourself. The type of guy that says it, even in a joking manner is usually the type that repels girls. Watch the guys that the girls throw themselves at, they are usually in control, know not to do that kind of stuff in front of girls, and especially know not to verbalise oooh ick about gay around the girls. For if you are judging someone hooking up with another just on looks, the girls are just going to think "well, what happens if we end up together, what are you going to do when I get older?" As for calling something gay as in sissy or girly, well that too just lets us know you have no clue about the other half, guys that are basically too macho for girls (which is fair enough, most straight people find it too scary to think about), which again lets us know indirectly how much you've worked out about girls. In summary, the roll eyes thing isnt so much about being offended, more about reacting to how clueless you are. For your own sake, the fake macho thing is just about the biggest girl repellant there is, they want control, not a guy that has to constantly remind them how much of a man they supposedly are
Why would you call someone a 'fag' when they were being annoying to you, if they was absolutely no negative connotation on it? Of course it's offense to gay people. I mean the word 'gay' or homosexual, to me, refers to a gay person. I don't remember ever meeting any other gay person and they had said ''Hi, I'm a fag. How are you?''. Ever heard this expression? ''Stop being so strait.''. No, because it's not meant to be offense, to be strait in todays world is nothing to be ashamed of. To be gay however, you are of a lower class of people. Or at least it's simply socially acceptable to make fun of us. I mean I dunno if you overweight, bald, spotty, whatever. But say you were overweight and I kept referring to you as being a fat git, when you were being slightly lethargic. That is not justified in my eyes. But then, I am not a narrow minded individual.
i don't find it offensive at all, my friends use it all the time as well. But i know they don't care that i am gay and are completely supportive so personally i dont see it as a problem. In fact this thread is a bit gayv
I had a few gay/lesbian friends who called everything 'gay'. I very much dislike the word faggot though
i don't say faggot or fag or anything but i have been known to call a few things gay. i'm somewhat gay myself thought so i'm allowed. bwahahah. kidding.
Because of the way it is used. If you see something you don't like or feel uncomfortable with, and you say, that's gay, you are saying by inference that you don't like or are uncomfortable about things that are 'gay'. You are insinuating there is something wrong with gay, otherwise calling something you don't like gay, would make zero sense. That is why some people take offense to it being used in that manner. Now if you are using it to refer to something that is truly of the 'gay' realm, such as two people of the same gender getting it on, then there is nothing wrong with it, it is simply a descriptive term. Personally, when I run across someone who thinks that using the term as a negative is okay, my first thought is that they don't have the intelligence to articulate their thoughts very well.
