You have any links or anything? Sounds kinda cool, I've heard of EVP but I don't think I've ever heard a recording (although sometimes my guitar pedal picks on police radio!).
OH GOD man, you have heard the Paper Chase too? Aren't they fucking incredible? It's almost like the thoughts a murderer would have, it's pretty insane, intense.
Yeah, still debating whether to get the new album but I probably will. Pretty much everything I've heard by them is amazing (The one about the doctor is a bit shit though.)
Well, since I listen to rather extreme forms of music there isn't much which really makes me uncomfortable, maybe The Swans - everything from Cop / Young god and Greed / Holy money, but I still like it. Songs I never want to hear ( again ): Marduk - Fuck me Jesus Buchenwald oven - ?? ( think Burzumish black metal with a hitler speech accompanied by haunting keyboards for intro - Buchenwald was a concentraition camp so I should have known ) The song Raping baby Jesus, don't know which band and I've never heard it but the title fiercely repulses me. I think I already made a reply here but I can't find it. If it was deleted, sorry for reposting it, go ahead and re-delete it if you deem it necessary.
Any kind of black and death metal (I don't even know if there's a difference, but anyway...) freaks me out. It's just not my thing.
Never really seen the appeal of Swans. Doesn't sound scary at all. I'm told that Throbbing Gristle are pretty creepy. First time you here "Like Herod" by Mogwai it scares the crap out of you. I won't say anymore. Would like to start a band and write with the sole intention of scaring people in various ways. Spoooooky imagery does nothing for me. Oh. The last track and subsequent hidden track from "Undertow" by Tool (is it called Digusted?) is still deeply unsettling, even when you know it's going to happen.
I'd like to pose two questions regarding this... 1. what freaks you out about it so much? 2. what do you count as black and death metal? Any bands you'd use as an example? I'm asking this because usually when people use these terms they mean something completely different with it. I could go on about the differences between black and death metal for (p)ages on end, and I'll spare you the boredom of that. But metal, even black and death metal really isn't a big deal. I'd watch out with it if you're easily influenced by lyrics and atmospheres, but otherwise both black and death metal can be very pleasant to listen to. I focus mainly on black metal myself and I can tell you that it's got captivating, epic melodies, intelligent song structures and subtle nuances. I honestly don't know why people are freaked out of it musically. Conceptually, I can understand.
No... I don't think the Swans sound *scary* per se. It's just... no melody, just heaviness and slowness and despair and pain in it and it's pretty unpleasant music in a pleasant way. I like it, even though it doesn't suit me.
for real! i saw a local, upstart, very-underground, experimental noise band at a small venue with about 50 kids who didn't know the songs or the band. we all just stood there and guessed at what it was about. wtf. haha. fun anyway.
The Beatles- Helter Skelter The Beatles- Revolution #9 Anything from Dimmu Borgir Don't listen to Revolution #9 when you are stoned...
Ever heard a band called Mass? Not The Mass, who are different. Heard them on the radio once, the heaviest thing I'd ever heard. Haven't heard this yet, the s/t album was so fucked up, I don't know if it's scary or not as I gave it away pretty quickly, feel a bit stupid for doing it now. Meh, I wouldn't have listened to it much.
Heehee, that song scared me too. There's a reason why. Kindergarden. You see, it reminded me if all the little friends I used to know long ago, I must've been in kindergarden. There was Maddy, who's mom made her play the violin. It's kind of obvious how the song reminded me of her. She squeaked out very similar notes. And then somewhere in the song a smokey noise pops out of nowhere... that was my friend, forgotten her name. A pudgy girl, with asthma, and blonde hair. That noise was like her taking her inhaler. And then the verses in the song... reminded me of a little girl who used to talk nonsense while instruments played behind her, thinking she was cool. What was her name... oh yeah... ME! Haha, I was such a cool little kid, I was the kindergarden equivilent to Lou Reed :H Flashbacks = Scary.
What? You're an idiot. Show me where in "Dazed and Confused" there is a reference to squeezing lemons.
