So I finally got a job after several months of looking. It's at a huge garden center like 5 minutes from my house & the work seems pretty good & its full time (& for the peak season you're guaranteed overtime-which is awesome b/c I need the $$). For the first few weeks I basically help put shit on display & help unload the trucks & count how much of each thing we get in. Then once that's done they're moving me to another section to work w/ plants & flowers & help the customers pick shit out. My only concern was on the application it said that some positions require pre-employment drug testing, but my one friend worked there & she said she never knew anyone who was drug tested. That & in the handbook it just says not to use illegal drugs or alcohol while working, which I guess is a given, lol, but nothing about having to take a drug test. So I still may wait a week or two just to make sure they don't randomly have me take one right at the start, but it seems all good so far. And plus I find being surrounded by plants & flowers & stuff really calming & just flat out prettier to look at than just sitting in a cubicle all day. So yeah, I'm pretty stoked about it.
Congrats on the new job! I work in a warehouse all alone putting catologues in boxes. Its depressing.
i find it funny that this thread is right above the "i got fired" thread.. bet that guy feels like ass
^haha, yeah. I actually got some shit today but I'm gunna hold out until after I start work, just to make sure. As I said, it said on the application that 'some positions may require pre-employment drug test' & my friend who worked there said nobody she knows has been drug tested there. And in the handbook it just talks about not being under the influence of drugs or alcohol at work. So I should be good, but as I said, I'm gunna wait just 2 make sure.
nice. i just got hired at subway a few weeks ago, its the easiest job ever. a customer comes in say every 45 minutes or so. and i can make myself a sub while working
No, its actually $8.50 an hour, which isn't great, but isn't horrible either. And since its peak season I'll be working more than 40 hours a week until about June & then it goes to 40 hrs a week.
$8.50 isnt minimum wage? Damn ours is 8.75 minimum Then again your dollar is stronger (I assume you live in the US)
Yeah, I live in the U.S. and frankly I'm surprised our dollar is stronger than any currency right now, haha. what country u from?
yeah, canada's strength of the dollar is getting closer to ours. I remember when I was like 19 I would drive the 2 1/2 hrs to Canada to buy cheap booze (since u can be 19 there & not there to buy alchyhol) & buy like 3 cases worth of Molson XXX. Now its so not worth the trip since the amount money I would spend has pretty much equaled out. That & I'm of legal age in the states to buy anyway.
The US dollart was worth a little less than the Canadian dollar at one point. But yeah, that'd be sweet to live close to Canada so you could buy booze when you're under 21. The boarder cops didn't give you any shit? I assume you hid it. Minimum wage is 8.15 here I think. Not ANYWHERE NEAR enough to live off of on your own.
We actually never really hid it. We would just put it in the trunk & never got caught. We would hide the cuban cigars though, haha.
