I've really never had to use filters before with my peices. I've always just put a bb size piece of bud right over the hole and that would normally keep stuff from going through. But I bought a used bubbler from a friend a few weeks ago. I guess its from him using it so much, but the opening is slightly morphed (its almost elliptical) and its kind of big. After I got the peice I proceeded to go buy a pack of faucet airaters, since I heard their good. I've used it about every other day since than, and the aerator i've been using is pitch black. I was just wondering if this is something I should worry about, and how long (how many smoking sessions) should I use a single aerator for? I a lil high, so I probably made that sound confusing.
Just so we all know what you are looking for and want to know about...You are talking about screens. They turn black for a couple of reasons mostly it's the tar or resin from the weed but it can also contain carbon from the burnt material and from the lighter as well. This is not a big deal. Some people like to torch it up and inhale it as well. However if using a copper screen I don't recomend this. They do sell some stainless steel ones that are better. You can soak them in alcohol to get rid of the black stuff. However, they are sooooo cheep I just tend to replace them. To answer your question you can use it until it does not work any more. I have used one screen for as long as two months. It all depends on how much you smoke and the care you use when cleaning the bowl. Good Luck and Happy Hunting!
They even make glass screens. http://www.everyonedoesit.com/onlin...loured_Daisies_Pack_of_10.cfm?iProductID=4232
OH yeah, I did mean screens. I got it in a generic facuet aerator pack. actual screens were silver in color (I guess that means stainless steel)
Stainless Steel is better. Copper can cause problems over a long period of time with heavy use. I am not sure what it is that copper causes, unlike aluminum with alzheimers and such but I would say we don't use it as much to cause to many issues. However, I am not a doctor, because if I was I would be working in California and passing out the weed scripts! Either way I think what you got is fine. I personally am going to check out those glass screens.
