Al-Jazeera broadcasts new bin Laden tape

NBC: ‘Bush cannot protect you,’ he tells America

    BREAKING NEWS
    MSNBC and NBC News
    Updated: 3:09 p.m. ET Oct. 29, 2004

Al-Qaida leader Osama bin Laden, in a videotape broadcast Friday on Al-Jazeera television, promised a new message on “the best way to avoid another Manhattan,” a clear reference to the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks in the United States.

U.S. officials who had seen the entire tape told NBC News that in the tape, which they said was authentic, bin Laden tells the American people that “Bush cannot protect you.” They said there was no plan to raise the terrorist threat level, currently at yellow, or “elevated,” because it makes no specific threat.

Neither the Qatar-based channel nor U.S. officials would say how it had received the tape.

The last authenticated contemporaneous video message from bin Laden appeared in December 2001, when he discussed a U.S. attack on a mosque. U.S. officials said all subsequent videos of bin Laden were believed to have been recorded earlier and broadcast much later.

The last audio message from bin Laden was on April 15, when he offered a truce to European nations if they removed their troops from the Middle East within 90 days. On Oct. 1, bin Laden’s second-in-command, Ayman al-Zawahri, issued an audiotape calling on young Muslims to strike the United States and its allies.

First we don't even know if it's really Bin Ladin, second if it is then why was Bush focusing on Sadam for the last 2 years instead of this guy & his fanatical cronies?

Bush is lousy at everything except lying, which he's pretty good at.

This could very well have been produced by the Bush admin. How many times has he said that "a vote for Kerry is a vote for terrorism?"

    The Al Jazeera Text

Osama bin Laden appeared in a new videotape, aired Friday on Aljazeera satellite channel, reading a statement to the Americans, admitting for the first time that he ordered the Sept. 11 attacks on the United States.

Bin Laden appeared in the video with a long gray beard, wearing white robes, a turban and a golden cloak reading a statement in front of a plain, brown curtain.

This is the first time Bin laden appears in more than a year. The videotape came four days before the U.S. presidential election.

The FBI and Justice Department in Washington had no immediate comment on Bin Laden’s statement read in the video. Officials said one part of their analysis will focus on whether the statement implied a possible future attack against the United States. However, they said it was too early to predict.

The date of the footage of the tape couldn’t be verified, however, it did refer to next week's presidential elections in the United States.

"We decided to destroy towers in America," bin Laden said, referring to the World Trade Center.

"God knows that it had not occurred to our mind to attack the towers, but after our patience ran out and we saw the injustice and inflexibility of the American-Israeli alliance toward our people in Palestine and Lebanon, this came to my mind," he said.

In his statement, Bin Laden accused President Bush of "misleading" the American people since the 2001 attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon.

"Your security is not in the hands of (Democratic candidate John) Kerry or Bush or Al Qaeda. Your security is in your own hands," bin Laden said.

"To the U.S. people, my talk is to you about the best way to avoid another disaster," he said.

"I tell you: security is an important element of human life and free people do not give up their security."

"If Bush says we hate freedom, let him tell us why we didn't attack Sweden, for example. It is known that those who hate freedom do not have dignified souls, like those of the 19 blessed ones," he said, referring to the 19 hijackers.

"We fought you because we are free .. and want to regain freedom for our nation. As you undermine our security we undermine yours."

"Despite entering the fourth year after Sept. 11, Bush is still deceiving you and hiding the truth from you and therefore the reasons are still there to repeat what happened (with new attacks)," Bin Laden added.

Bin Laden also said that Bush's reaction toward the Sept. 11 attacks was slow which gave the hijackers the time they needed to carry out the attacks.

"It never occurred to us that the commander-in-chief of the American armed forces would leave 50,000 of his citizens in the two towers to face these horrors alone," he said, referring to the number of people who worked at the World Trade Center.

"It appeared to him (Bush) that a little girl's talk about her goat and its butting was more important than the planes and their butting of the skyscrapers. That gave us three times the required time to carry out the operations, thank God," he said.

Bin Laden said that he was inspired with the idea of attacking the U.S. skyscrapers when he saw Israeli aircraft bombing tower blocks in Lebanon in 1982.

"As I watched the destroyed towers in Lebanon, it occurred to me to punish the unjust the same way ... to destroy towers in America so that it can taste some of what we are tasting and to stop killing our children and women," said bin Laden.

"We had agreed with the overall commander Mohammed Atta (who led the Sept 11. suicide plane hijackers), may God rest his soul, to carry out all operations in 20 minutes before Bush and his administration take notice," he said.

This election is so corrupted it's sick! It's probably just another campaign tactic from Bush or Kerry. What's this world coming to. We might as well have a dictator.

Consider also that Bin Laden made a lengthy interview with a Pakistani news agency after 9/11 in which he unequivocally denied Al qaedes involvement in that attack. Hardly in keeping with any cause-oriented terrorist action, especially one so bold and so successful.

Bin Laden Interview with Ummat reporter - Sept. 28, 2001

Yet at every crisis moment of this administration, when further revelations of their lies, mismanagement, rashness and failures in their claims of making the world safer (i.e. The stolen explosives in Iraq only days ago), bingo! we have in short order another miraculous video tape find with some juicy message designed to keep their "Emmanuel Goldstein" boogeyman threat alive and well in the minds of the easily programmed sheepish majority.

The manipulation is beyond transparent, its absolutely ludicrous.

No Matthew, Al Jazeera need not be owned by US corporate interests in order to be equally collusionary with Washington's agenda. It is in fact owned by the Emir of Qatar (another of our Middle Eastern lapdogs and allies (i.e. beneficiaries)) Neither does it lend automatic credence as to authenticity, given that anyone could have sent that tape to them (gee, didn't think to even ask that question did you?) including the CIA or the Mossad insofar as they are operative in nearly every country and since 9/11 more so in the Middle East than in years past.

In the end, one must always keep at the forefront the questions "who is profiting most from the continuance of the perpetual war?", "who is feeding our public's fear more demonstrably on a daily basis?", "who have been relying on lies, spin and diversionary claims to stay afloat at every point in which prior lies are exposed?".

It all comes back to our MIC and their avaricious profiteering.

I find it all laughably and transparently contrived.

It does seem contrived i admit, but who benefits Bush ? Kerry ? no one ?. I would like too know what the chap has to say in full... i call him a hypocrite because he is contrived and what he says is laughable (if his organisation was not so deadly).

IMHO it was sent by him right now because of the election, and all that implies, its pathetic .

I have watched http://www.kuro5hin.org/story/2004/10/24/115621/52 http://www.bbc.co.uk/cgi-perl/whatson/prog_parse.cgi?FILENAME=20041103/20041103_2100_4224_45945_60 and see that the cia may have sent the tape, but right now i think he sent the tape himself because its a pathetic attempt to sway the election because last week or the week before would have been better if the cia had a hand in it.

Actually I disagree. the timing fits more appropriately as a diversion from the confirmations only days ago that in fact this administration attempted to lie and shift the blame once again for its failure to secure the explosives in Iraq whilst claiming to have made the world a safer place. The subtlety of this tape's supposed message (a likely overlay by some paid arabic speaking lackey) leaves Kerry unable to speak directly to its denunciations without leaving himself wide open for media claims of "agreeing with Bin Laden" and indeed, gives the Bush admin more spin material to recapture its lost rhetorical momentum on the question of Bin Laden.

Far more damaging to Kerry in the end analysis.

I suspect Bin laden remains debilitated and on dialysis and not out making videos.

Him being debilitated might be true, it takes nothing for the same logic to presume bin laden did not orchestrate another person to make the video. So yes it could well be a fake bin laden but bin laden himself could have made it.

Its a media invention about it being for political gain, just to add a bit more drama. The shoking thing i think is that we presume its not bin laden or if it is it may have been with held and its all a Bush tactic to throw a diversion from this or that ...mmm whatever. No IMHO it is from him and its its all as sophisticated as dressing up hostages (ken bigley to name one) in orange overals and putting them in a cage.

It's not surprising that OBL would want to send Bush a "little gift" around election time.

After all, they've certainly been considerate of his needs. what with...

    Ignoring Clinton's warnings about him...

Leaving Richard Clark, terrorism expert under Reagan, Clinton, and Bush 43rd, out, "out of the loop..."

Not having a single anti-terrorist meeting until after 9/11...

Changing the Saudi visa rules to let his minions into the US...

Sitting in the "goat chair" for several crucial minutes...

Turning the Tora Bora endgame over to the local mercenaries...

Sending much of our OBL-Hunt resources off the Iraq...

Blowing Mohammed Kahn's cover before he could help roll up the organization...

Scaring the stuffing out of people with poll-boosting "terror alerts" every few months...

Hmmm... You know what? I'm beginnging to think Osama maybe should have sent a bigger gift.
