I'm having a hard time finding "hippy" clothing. I try getting stuff of the net, but I'm a poor college kid and thrift shops in my area are pretty lame.

I can't even find any real bellbottoms around here (I live in Michigan)...any suggestions?

Uhhhh.... Make your own clothes. And remember, looking like a hippy is half the battle.

It's not so much I'm concerned with dressing like a hippy. I have a lot of "hippy clothes" that I have accumulated through the years, but most of the jeans are getting ripped in the rear end and patches can only go so far. The shirts are getting ripped and in general, I just need new clothes and my style of clothing is really difficult to find...

bellbottoms arent 'hippy' clothes thift store clothes and home made clothes are 'hippy' clothes youre thinking of the stereotype hippy just wear whatever you like and whatever you can aford hippies wore bellbottom in the sixties cause thats what their thrift stores had sailors wore them originally so just wear whatever clothes are only a covering it doesnt matter what they look like match it with your personality and making your clothes would probably be the best for what you probably have in mind looking for stuff can take a long time and you know the holes in your clothes just make em look more 'hippish'
    ~do whatever makes you happy

I look at it this way...maybe the clothing I like is the "stereotypical hippy clothing"...I've dressed the same way for years...

My boyfriend took me shopping for a special occasion we have and we were looking for clothes for me. I just couldn't find any...we went to about twenty five stores and I didn't find anything...grrrr frustrating.

Oh and I'm not sure if holes in the ass of my jeans is a very good idea...but whatever.

ditto...i dig the situation sister...i too am a poor college student. recently i needed to get some new jeans...so i asked my sister if she had any clothes i could have that she didn't want...she came thru...gave me two pairs of jeans that are flairs! i love them they are so comfortable. i also find sometimes pretty indian skirts at thrift stores. i also save on shoes, only have three: 1 pair clogs, 1 pair boots, and 1 pair sandles when it comes to shirts i generally can find stuff at thrift stores or i go dumpster diving or i can ask a friend...remember clothes are not the hippie...the values and the life are what make you hip. in the 60's some of our brothers and sisters had to wear the same clothes days on end. peace and love and good luck.
    p.s
wear some of your old man's clothes. i wear my husband's alltime if i want a change :)

    Guy clothes are so comfy!

And I've found that if you wear it, even if you don't think it's your style of clothing...It will look like YOU...It's attitude that makes clothing what it is...You put a prom dress on a girl with confidence, and the same style dress on a girl with none....and the look fits the confident girl....If you want to have that hippy style, just exude that hipness and I'm sure you'll look like a hippy...even if you are wearing AE or something....

I don't like hippy clothes stores because it defeats the purpose, plus they sell them very expensive. Are you just egging to be called "hippy" by someone, does it really matter what you wear?

ebay can be a great thing for cheap clothes. sometimes you can find stuff for as cheap as 50 cents plus shipping. making your own is great, too. or go to a thrift shop, find some crappy clothes and make them into something cool. i've seen people do some pretty ingenious stuff; this one girl i know has a bunch of skirts that she made out of her mom's old table clothes and they are the coolest things i've ever seen. just get creative; whatever scraps of clothing or fabric you have lying around your house have the potential to be really cool clothes. and be sure to ask your parents for leftovers that they don't wear anymore. i was suprised at all the awesome stuff i found digging through my parents closest. or, take some of your clothes you don't want and post them up on here, maybe somebody will trade with you. it's worth a try.

the bargain basements rock for paisley, peasant shirts, etc..everything that no one that can afford a 80$ shirt would buy... and it's all like 90% off.
I love bargain basements and salvage stores.
