Most companies here in Dubai "illegally" keep the passports of their employees. This is a blatant violation of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, Article #13.

The Federal Government of the United Arab Emirates is tolerating this practice because of the non-enforcement of the law!

    That's terrible.

Just a friendly hint with your writing, there is no need to use quotation marks around "illegal" if what you are talking about is genuinly illegal and isn't that what you are saying?

And if not, there is still no need, as it lessens the impact of what you have written and is not grammaticaly necessary.

after talking with my sis inlaw I am really ready to just ride a horse!! She out of need has worked in both the UAE and the KSA. You can walk the streets of any of their medium sized cities and still see hands that have been cut off slowly rotting away in the air. Hey to each their own but this is just f******* not acceptble!

you don't seem to be boycotting it though ? seen as you're still 'here'

Dubai is a developing city, UAE is developing, evolving ..and is very young too. what it has achieved in the relatively short period of time is truly a phenomenon. and while the economy's still in a liquid state, it is not altogether regulated. much has been done and much still needs to be, UAE is open to investors from all over, setting themselves up ..along with some good practises, some not so good creep in, this is not necessarily Dubai-grown ..(85% of the population being foreigners)

besides, there's much that is sensationalised about without giving numbers ...i doubt the "free world" is violation-free

in the meantime, enjoy the Dubai dream ...
