well its like the difference between capieerro (whatever it is that brazilian style thats more dance then deffence) and iron shirt chi kung

1 is more for style and finnesse, for show with very lil emphasis on deffence, the other well is for stopping a sword with your throught or a sledge hammer with your balls

theres as great variation in disapline and seriiusness

the 1st is all about flipping around putting on a show no contact no danger closer to balet then kung fu or other didsaplines (altho can have some practicle application in serius situatuions)
the ither wekl its about survivability, inpenetrability fucusing the life force so the sharpest sword cannot puncture the softest flesh.

theres a huge diffeeence in the level of dedication required to reach mastership

(u brought up the comparrison not me, its all youre fault :p )

seperating causes ripping when theres connected hairs preventing complete seperation

wow ppl are reaching for straws hjere
seperating and ripping are 1 in the sanme thing unless theres nothing to rip

The invention of the comb was natural. It was natural because humans invented it. It what we do. Our evolutionary 'tactic' is not to out-run or out fight predators, its to out think them. Our edge over our primate cousins simply comes from the degree we are able to adapt and manipulate the world around us, though we are by no means unique in doing this. Not even our use of tools is unique. Certain higher primates have been shown to do this too (chimpanzee termite 'fishing-rods' etc). The basic cognitive steps required to do this are the same as in humans - albeit fewer of them, and more simplified. Is the chimpanzee engaging in unnatural hunting by employing a tool? Of course it isn't. Its no more unnatural than a human employing a tool to groom their hair.

I hate this whole humans vs nature, natural vs unnatural crap that goes on in this forum. I really do. We are as much part of nature as the next primate in the tree. All human grooming is either 100% natural or 100% unantural/made-made, depending on whether you believe humans to be part of nature or somehow removed from it. Either way, its all same. Fingers = natural, combs = unnatural is total bollox. Fingers, combs, beads, shampoo, hair bands, tams etc etc, is all HUMAN, is all PRIMATE.

Whether one is deemed superior/inferior is all down to personal opinion, which unfortunately seems to be tainted by a great deal of smug, self-congratulatory elitism in this forum. If the notion that your dreadlocks have been touched by nothing other than your own hands makes you feel somehow more at one with Mother Earth or less like an Earth-raping, morally bankrupt excuse of a species, then good for you: however you want to square it with youself. It is not the way for everyone, and not all in here feel the need to endlessly proselytise - or be endlessly preached at.

    I did backcombing...it was uhh...weird.
Did my brothers as well, he got tired of having to seperate them every day cuz they would try to congo up bad.
So he combed his out (They weren't far along.)

I'm much happier with natural. Hair has to grow more anyways, only 7-9 inches somewhere in there...
