Last night (Friday night), I ate a slice of cubes at about 8 o'clock. I like to trip alone in my room for most of my mushroom trips, and last night was no different. I didn't eat all afternoon and I anxiously chowed down the whole slice. I then headed up to my room and turned the overhead lights off. I think that dim lighting (I use a blue lava lamp) provides a great tripping environment. I proceeded to prepare a blank pad of paper, set up my guitar and keyboard, and pack a fat bubbler bowl of Super Silver Haze. I gratefully sank into my couch and smoked the bowl. I put on my Ipod, close my eyes, and wait.

Around 8:40 I begin to feel the first tinglings of the mushroom. I turn off my Ipod and pick up my guitar and jam around on my acoustic guitar for the next half hour or so until I really started to trip. By 9:30 I was tripping pretty hard. Each note on the guitar offered endless possibilities and I felt as if I could simply play guitar for eternity. Music is just too much fun. I always tend to play with altered tunings when I am tripping, and last night I tuned down my guitar down and began to mess with some percussive slapping. I wrote a bunch of pretty cool stuff down and worked on some still developing songs. By 10:00 I decided to change gears because I didn't want to spend the entire trip playing guitar because that happens too much.

I stood up and sat down at my keyboard. An electronic keyboard is a remarkably fun thing to play with. Mine allows me to manipulate the sound in a remarkable number of ways. When I sat down at the keyboard last night, I put it on a synthesizer setting and began to work on a song. As with the guitar, I could hardly decide where to begin because everything sounded so good. I began focusing on the music subconsciously out of my fingers, hardly aware that it was myself who was playing. One of the more memorable visuals of the night was the black keys on the keyboard as pupils dilating and contracting. I continued to create music until around 10:45, at which point I decided to head downstairs.

I was starving at this point, and so I grabbed some snacks from the kitchen. I cut up a bunch of fruit and had a feast of strawberries, blueberries, and melon sprinkled with sugar. I have to say, I've never tasted anything so sweet as that juicy and sugary fruit. Having satisfied my stomach, I went into the TV room and turned on my N64. I decided to play Majora's Mask, one of my all-time favorites. I have a game file with all the masks and everything beaten, and so I played that and ran around the virtual world. I have always been fascinated by video games, especially adventure games, while tripping. It was like I left reality and became Link riding around this completely new world. Those who have played Majora's Mask know how fun it is to change forms into a Zora or Gorn (The deku is pretty lame), and it was ridiculously fun last night. The concept of changing forms mesmerized my tripping mind. I also really like the music in the Zelda games, probably because it was a big part of my younger childhood. It was now about 11:30.

By this point, I felt that the trip was coming to a close and headed back up to my room to smoke another bowl. When I opened the window to smoke the bowl, a gust of delicious fresh rainy air came flooding into my room. In it I could taste the end of winter and the beginning of spring, and I was momentarily in awe of the earth's natural cycle. I then noticed that the rain had created an intricate pattern of lights on the screen of my window. I gulped down the fresh air and ran my fingers over the screen for nearly 20 minutes, mesmerized that something as simple as rain could captivate me so deeply. I picked up my pad of paper and wrote: "Life is only as beautiful as one chooses to perceive it. Modern lifestyle leads to a numbing of the senses, but this heightened perception allows one to see the true beauty of the world."

Nothing too interesting came after that. I played guitar until 1 o'clock when I decided to go to bed. It was an enjoyable trip, albeit not as strong as some of the other trips I've had off a slice. All in all a rewarding and worthwhile experience.

A slice usually refers to an 1/8th around Philly.
You know, as in a 'slice' of pizza?

Well I think pizza's are usually sliced into 8 pieces.

While I can see why one can enjoy playing video games, it kind of sets an evil tone in my trips if I turn on the television or talk on the phone or play a video game. It makes me feel less natural, I guess. I view myself watching televison, and it's just like watching existance, and I'd rather be existing, not watching it.

I don't know, hard to explain.

I know what you mean about video games. Sometimes I start seeing myself as this lazy sloth when I've been watching TV or playing games too long. That's usually when I stop playing. But I see it as something cool where you can completely lose your ego and become something else. I literally felt like I was Link running around this whole new world that I had suddenly become a part of.

I'm currently in the recording process of a song I wrote during this trip. Its one of my favorite songs I've written. I'll post it up when I'm done.
