Basically I have been living in my part of the country for my entire life and no matter where I seem to travel I am always met with Racist people in some form.

For example the old dear in the corner using a nasty term for an African Person that was the norm when she grew up, Or the tough nut chav calling someone a 'Black ****'

Of course, I do realise that Racism comes from all walks of people, from all different colors, so without making this poll into a thread to discuss what you feel about certain peoples, or where you think they should go, I say lets discuss in this thread, the issue of Racism as a whole, the proposed solutions and the main side effects of such ignorance.

In the words of the great Jah Rastafari

'The color of a mans skin is of no more significance than the color of his eyes'

I personally feel there is no place for racism anywhere in the world. It is essentially just spot the difference for those who's knuckles still drag along the ground.

    Discuss...

Far too many of these people around. Stuck, blind, and like to have people in boxes. I try to ignore it and get on with living in sanity. Ill always tell them why theyre wrong and what I think, but its never got me anywhere with em

I am bound by my faith not to ignore this.

'Throughout history it has been the inaction of those who could have acted,
the indifference of those who should have known better,
the silence of the voice of justice when it mattered most,
that has made it possible for evil to triumph.' - Jah Rastafari

So I think this is an issue that we simply cannot ignore, If there is anything to be gained from this discussion it is the possibility of a solution or at least some form of tactic to take to our supposed 'leaders'.

Thank you for your input and I definitly agree it seems to get nowhere with the people dealing out the abuse.

Ok well I didnt exactly mean ignore totally...its late! What I meant was what I said after, Ill always try my best to show the people I see it in, and Ill always defend anyone being abused, but theres only so many times you can hit your head against a brick wall, you know

Thanx but I do know all about indifference being no good and all that stuff. Im a person who always gives my best with important issues. Im just not explaning myself so well tonight *slinks off to bed*

Ill be keeping an eye on this thread though for any ideas:)

Well thank you alot for your welcome Brother (or Sister)

I have been a member here for a while but i've always found the UK threads to be a little less active so I mainly congregate in the Dreadlock section (obviously) but now I see this section livening up a bit so I figure i'll head on over for a chitter chatter.

Your philosophy is a very well thought out one friend. It gives me faith there are still some intelligent people left because around my towns........there doesnt seem to be many left haha.

uh, well ive only ever lived in london, really, which is so multicultural that being racist is probably more effort than its worth, not to say there arent a few, but they are definitely in the minority around here. from limited experience, the countryside tends to be more racist, but id imagine thats probably because they are used to living in tight, close-knit communities so are naturally distrustful of those they view as outsiders, more of a social thing than a racial one.

Eh, I see quite a bit of it around, not so much down south though, but definitely in the north, in smaller towns/cities where you can in fact walk around for an entire day and only see a couple of Indian people or one or two black people..

Regarding the older generation, it'd be overly optimistic to expect them to change - what if racist terms became acceptable again in 50 years and society expected YOU to start using them? (Not likely, but you see my point I hope)

Im not sure I entirely agree with this post but find the concepts interesting ....and when people dismiss people who dont agree with them as people who drag their knuckles this is partly what comes into my head

I think the reason for racism is that it promotes the chance of your closer relatives surviving , look at it from a evolutionary perspective, you have a animal thats territorial that fights over resources and you have a drive to give your offspring the best chance.
so you have tribes that look somewhat like you made up of nearer relatives , you fight wars commit genocide, the more successful at this have a better chance of their offspring surviving .

I think its all about the survival of your genes and that racism may to a degree be innate and part of nature otherwise why would so many cultures be racist .
When a babys born their more likely to imprint on their mother and then more likely to imprint on people that look like their mother , you can get them to imprint on anything but they have a preference

You seem to have some form of religion where you think the world should be a certain way your sky god tells you so , you could have ethics where you don’t believe in racism on this I may agree with you .
but you see a form of racism in the natural world

Once for reasons of temporary geographical separation for example, a sub-group of a species changed appearance, the rest of the species stops mating with them, even though they could still have fertile offspring together. So animals do discriminate against appearance, or other features like singing tone/pitch in birds for example. This leads to an acceleration of speciation, over evolutionary time, different races of animals will become different species.

You have competition between animals the gazelle runs the lion chases , different groups of monkeys kill other groups of monkeys if you believe in a god why would he have designed the world thus if he didn’t want it so

You could put a case that anti racism is going against nature that it destroys diversity of the gene pool and the ability to exploit evolutionary niches skin colour is important in that if your in the northern hemisphere being pale gives you a advantage in using sunlight if your in Africa dark skin gives you a advantage same with eye or hair colour, same with eye shape or nose shape these are all useful adaptions that are being lost.
blond hair allows more light to reach the scalp thick dark curly hair does the oppersite , long thin noses allow cold air to be warmed wide flaring noses are better to get rid of heat .
you can do tests on europeans and eskimos and they are better at dealing with cold than say africans .

I find much multi-racism or anti-racism quite racist , you get people who seem to have a totalitarian agenda associated with it .

you get people who think its the way to this utopia the whole thing reminds me of the nazis but in reverse

Yes, racism is very largely innate. It has been shown that people naturally form in-groups and out-groups based on trivial or arbitrary distinctions probably because of our instincts for group co-operation beyond the level of kin selection. Skin colour is an obvious factor of visible difference. Naturally most of us will be instinctively racist by default.

Yes racism is completely natural and you could make the point that anti-racism is "going against nature". This is true in much the same way that disease is natural and the vaccines and medecines which stop you dying from them are "going against nature". Natural does not mean good.

Your point about "destroying the diversity of the genepool" is not correct, there is no meaningful genetic distinction between different races of humans, we are remarkably homogenous as a species - unlike many other species. Were there still a survival pressure with an impact on differences like skin colour then these would change very quickly within a few generations. There are often bigger genetic differences between two caucasians than between any one caucasian and an african or asian (for instance). This is probably because of an evolutionary bottleneck at some point in the not too distant past meaning all humans on the planet evolved from a very small group perhaps a hundred thousand years ago, during which time no significant genetic separation of reproductively isolated groups has had time to occur.

i dont care to much, but i have to say there is racist all around the world, every colour skin can be just as racist as the next....

Im a white girl and my partner is indian... i have white ppl abuse me coz im not with my own kind... yet ive had indians/asians call me all sorts coz im white... it sucks ass but thats life...

i do some times wonder why racisum is so high right now
and i guess we have such a mix of colours and cultures in this country now, that no wonder there is so much hate, lets face it.... every culture has a diffrent way of life, diffrent thoughts on how life should be lived and laws should be held... also i think there isnt much respect... respect should play a big part in people getting along with each other, we have ppl come into the UK and a lot dont respect this country... i know a lot of asian people who do nothing bit backbite about the UK in how it should be run this way and that, and that white ppl have done this and done that... but i can never understand if someone hates white people or the way the country is run then why have they left their country to be in a country they can not stand...

personally i was brought up to respect every human being and treat ppl how u wish to be treated
