    MIKAEL AKERFELDT (opeth)

Smoothest death grunts and most haunting clean vocals.

Dead (mayhem) was easily the most metal vocalist ever.
but the best vocal work in a metal song i've heard in a while would have to be the vocals in Firesoul by Mercenary.

I'm gonna go old school and say Kevin Dubrow from Quiet Riot, David Coverdale from Whitesnake, and Tom Keifer from Cinderella are my top 3 favorites.

I found this forum via a search for something totally different, found this thread, and felt compelled to sign up just to rectify the massive injustice.

Eight pages, three mentions of Angela fucking Gossow?! (seriously, a cat choking on a furball has the same level of talent as Angela Gossow, and probably looks more attractive doing it), names like Andreas Dorner are being dropped all the time...

...but not one person has mentioned Jorn Lande OR Russell Allen?

Pfffft. Well, now I have. Jorn Lande and Russell freakin' Allen. :p

Edit: And when he's on form, Tobias Sammet's up there too. And Andre Matos.

Oh, and Simone Simmons. And while we're there, Roy Khan.

I'd haev to say John Tardy of Obituary for death metal. Probably Hat from Gorgoroth's Pentagram for black metal. I can't really decide for thrash and power metal though, theres too many.

    Ted Neeley
Chris Cornell (sublime during his days with Soundgarden, but you can tell that improper use has taken a bit of a toll)
    Ian Gillan
Elvis Presley (yeah, i know, not metal, but still has some awesome pipes!)
Tom Jones (think of his wail on "the lead and how to swing it")
    Mick Jagger
    Robert Plant in his heyday
