My hair goes down almost to the middle of my back, and I feel like I want to get dreads since I've had the same hairstyle for a while and I don't want to cut it. So I think I want some dreads. But I want to do it in an inconspicuous way to kind of surprise my parents. Whats the proper way to do it without any waxes or other assorted products? Also, is there a way to do it without rubber bands and making myself look like a douche for a few months?
the most inconspicuois way would be to use a RESIDUE FRee shampoo, and stop combing your hair, douchy days will be unavoidable, but if you want to jump right into things backcombing will help u get started, but id say try natural first, what kind of hair do you have?
Simply stop brushing your hair. Your hair will lock up faster if you use quality soap to wash it with like stated above. Either was you go it will take a good while for your hair to lock. It's a journey for sure. I backcombed my hair originally and I recommend against it for numerous reasons. If I had to it over again I would simply stop brushing my hair. Browse around and you'll find your way.
i stopped brushing mione and it dreaded fast i highly recomend ya do natural especialy with very long hair your hair will dread extemely fast due to length alone then idf u think about backcombing (if u use a plasticcomb instead of metal, u will break all the teeth out of about 12 combes easy..metal teeth break harder..but..dont hairs break even easier then plastic teeth?) the backcombing of that much hair will hurt like crazxy and be very dammaging..backcombings great for short hair too sgghort tdread naturaly (backcombs can be done at 4 inches natural usualy takes 6+) you have ..20+? it will dread in days..but wont be nice tight dreads for a couple months but ..within a couple weeks u will have dreads that just happen before your eyes no interference from you what could be more inconspicouse then i swear i just woke up this way..lol
You're gonna have some crazy, messy hair for a few months no matter how you go about it, it's part of the process. If you want to surprise your parents and get a head start, backcombing may be the answer for you. You can help tame the frizzies with aloe vera to keep them neat & tidy looking. Whatever you decide, good luck and post pics of your dready journey.
Yeh I think the surprise factor will really get lost unless you do some kind of knotty kick-starting procedure like backcombing
he said inconspicouse inconspicouse woukld be if thetyhappened over time unseen really then one day just were noticable backcombing is conspicouse as hell hed come home with big puffy sausages sticking out at crazy angles like sideshow bob inconspicoyse, through on a hat alot,..tie it back alot let the dreads form on theyre own kinda hidden friom sight till oner day theyre just impossible to not notice..by that time thwty'll be pretty far along and he can say he just forgot to brush a few months and they happened.. best of all would be if ya coulsd start now, in the spring when theyre really getting formed takee a trip..then come home totaly dready
It won't stick up at all if it's long. Long backcombed dreads look pretty good right from the beginning; I've done a few and have always been impressed with how tidy they look in comparison to shorter backcombed locks.
yep inconspicuously hide out in a tee pee for 2 years while you dread neglect..your folks wont notice at all now the backcomb debate is plastic vs metal comb...really????
Ok, so for beginners, heres my hair. http://c4.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images02/26/l_742929565dfa4a7b93a9d7564aa94257.jpg Thats it pulled back This is it last summer, when it was a little bit more dead at the ends, but out. http://c1.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images01/123/l_82c8b83486c0ce6b316c7369d36dc21c.jpg I started two dreads at each of the back corners of my head with the twist and rip method. One side came out pretty good, while the other side is a bit loose, but gets tigher towards the end. Does it matter if its a little bit loose? Also, the last time I brushed my hair was fucking ages ago. Before I even considered dreads lol.
yep, I would backcomb ...but thats just me really from what I have seen of the natural method it will take some time....and if you dont want to invest the time...start backcombing my brotha
Do whatever feels right to you. If you backcomb, expect them to be loose at first. A lot of times they go through phases like this (after backcombing) a) Tight after initial backcomb b) Really loose and falling apart c) start tightening and maturing Avoiding part B is why some people choose to use wax.
