I'm a man who sees nothing in monotheistic or polytheistic religion. I hold the belief that I am my own god. But still at the same time, I feel like there is something missing. I feel as if I'm missing something to live by, because as of now I'm really not living for anything but myself. I feel like I really need a spiritual side to me. I have none, even though basically all day I ponder life and existence and all of that brewhaha. What can I do?

It's good to have a spiritual crisis for one so young.

Means you're paying attention in class. Alert. Asking questions.

"Who am I" is a big one.

How you construct your life in the years ahead will determine how serious you are about knowing the answer.

Take some BandAids and learn how to duck. It's not a path for those who desire the world.

But take a swim so you'll know the difference later when it counts.

    You WILL be tested. :)

I understood that after a few times reading it over, but I'm still not exactly sure on what you mean.

To have a spiritual calling at 16 is admirable.

It's easy to concentrate on self and observe the world in a calm manner.

After age 18, you may find the demands of life competing with your spiritual time. I suggest you go out and explore the world before making any concrete decisions concerning what path you wish to walk. After traveling around and seeing how other people live, this will help you empathize with them.

Empathy is important for a seeker, because empathy and compassion walk hand in hand.

The more you can feel what other people feel, the less likely you are to do them any harm. This is the essence of a spiritual life.

Worldly people, who rule the world, will always see you as a threat because you can't be programmed anymore. But they will never stop trying, and this is why I warn you to be on your guard for it.

Learn to surf life. Let the worldly people jump into the current and swim against it. They can't see the sharks that you see, up there on the board.

I dig, I dig. My life views can be seen as conceited to many, but I basically look out for myself in the long run. It seems that through everyone I've met, most people have fucked me over in a way. So in the end I stick to my guns, be generous and courteous to everyone that acts the same towards me, but I always keep in the back of my mind that they can fuck me over. I see my mind as my own God, and that I'm living this life for me, to experience the full range of emotions and interactions that the human brain is capable, even if they are shit sometimes, you know what I'm sayin?

Part of honing life skills is learning to avoid people who would do you harm.

Most people are good, but there will always be a few nobody can seem to reach with kindness. They have their own issues. Avoid them if you can, treat them with respect if you can't. Respect is often something they lack within themselves, so they're not used to giving or recieving.

You must treat everyone as a brother or sister. See to their needs as you would see to your own.

The path is very simple and straightforward.

It is humanity that has a hard time walking a straight line.

yeah, try not to assume that people out there will fuck you.

this is how I deal with it.

on the whole spiritual level, I have o idea.. Don't follow any structured religion. I love the idea of a god, but it can mean so many different things , that I decided I won't let any structured religion guide my life, instead, I'll try to accept many positive religious examples as a guide to lead a happy life.

Onto the whole "is it selfish to look out for yourself", this is how I see it. Helping others makes us feel happy. We get a positive feeling inside when we do positive things for people around us. So seeing it this way, helping myself includes helping those around me.

There's always a positive way of seeing most things that happen in our everyday lives...

I'm hopefully going to try acid on Friday. I hope that will help me explore my mind in its fullness.

One thing I am learning is the old cliche: body, mind spirit is now been added an important fourth element: community.
getting involved or being a part of some type of community is essential, and gives you a chance to be a part of something bigger then yourself.

Community is realization of self, because in seeing yourself in other people and other ideas, you are able to understand the possibilities of expanding this outward until it encompasses all of creation.

Selfish people are like a bubbleboy. Small world inside.

Selfless people are able to move their consciousness around within other people's identity, to see life as they see life. To walk a mile in their moccasins, as the old saying goes.

To see humanity as a single organism, is to know Adam before Eve came along.

    Before the fall into individuality.

Dream. Have a vision of what you want your life to be, the type of friends you wanna have, the lifestyle/location you want to live. Then make every moment one step foward towards that dream. Learn to be healthy, learn to love and be free, and to create. Know who you are in the present moment.

I'm going through a sort of spiritual crisis as well. I'm 22 and am trying to identify with my spiritual self. I've always resorted to labeling myself Agnostic, though once I started to really take time out to think of what I believe in, I lean more to Paganism, but am still trying to discover exactly what it is I believe.

I don't believe in Deism, but believe everything in the universe to be divine. Because of Air, Plants, Earth, Sun we all came to be, and without we would no longer be. We are all one in nature, and will always be and we should embrace our natural selves and our environment. When it comes to creation and afterlife, I'm struggling greatly and am still trying to find my beliefs.

I hope to, I really do. I really need some guidance though.

I really want to take a month long camping trip and ACTUALLY live and survive for some guidance -- I think it would help me greatly, but it would be hard to do.
