One birth control mini pill called cerazette and an antibacterials called trimethoprim... AAAH! Yeah, well I was brought up to think that all unnatural medicine is bad, my mum wasnt too pleased when she knew I wanted to take the antibacterial, but I reeeaallly need it. So yeah. I am a pill popper as of today.

But no worries, they wont battle against each other.

True story. I had been taking an antibiotic and BCPs when I became pregnant with my first pregnancy.

Also, my cousin is currently a little over 5 months pregnant...was on BCPs but had taken antibiotics, cancelling the effectiveness, but no one had ever told her that it would do such a thing. And talk about really bizzare, she was still getting her period so she had no clue she was even pregnant. She went in to the doctor a few weeks ago because she kept complaining of cramps, thought she had ovarian cysts again, low and behold, the doctor told her that she was nearly 5 months pregnant. Imagine that kind of shock!

    I know, isn't it?

The doctor says that the baby seems to be doing well, according to the exam, and ultrasound...not sure if she's had the labs drawn yet. I was concerned when I first heard, because I know taking BCPs when you're pregnant can cause complications. I'd say she's one very lucky girl.

It's insane I know, but some women still have a period when they're pregnant!

I asked whether she had noticed that she was gaining weight, but she's a bit of a bigger girl to begin with (real tall and bigger boned) so it wasn't as though she was even showing any signs of a baby bump, and with it being her first baby, well sometimes you don't actually show until later.

I didn't really start to look pregnant with my oldest son until I was around 6 months. Then I just POPPED. Before that, I looked like I had just put on some weight.

Anyway, yes, she was still getting her period, only thing she could think back on was that she was feeling more tired. Didn't have any nausea.

I couldn't imagine going into the doctor and not having a clue I was pregnant, finding out like that. I must admit, I was skeptical at first, I thought maybe she had known but was afraid to tell anyone, was kind of pretending it wasn't so, in denial. But...I definitely remember chatting with some ladies on pregnancy boards when I was expecting who had experienced similar things. So I know it's possible, it's just hard to digest I guess!

I'm telling ya, A class Ninja.

That would actually scare me so much. I guess it's taken for granted so much that if you have your period, you're not pregnant but... obviously not. :D

Yeah, but not to worry, it's not a common thing. Most women WON'T have their period while pregnant. I'm not even sure why their body would keep menstruating, or maybe it's not even considerd that being that they're pregnant. Makes me want to research it. :) I know of women who have had break-through bleeding, but supposedly that is only within the first month of pregnancy, not a continous thing.

    Human body, pretty amazing thing.

And poor spirit of the night, her thread has been derailed and now she's probably paranoid. I'm sorry. :(

hehe no its cool no worries :), that was a very interesting story you posted. it needed discussion.

The doctor ( a woman and we know her and trust her) is the one who put me on cerazette and now the antibacterial and she knows me. i actually asked her if it would make it less effective, but she said not with the mini pill, or words to that effect. plus me and "Jim" use a condom anyway.

    Thanks though :)

    Blessings
