Well, i'm a senior in high school right now, graduating in may. Im basically only going to be joining the work force until I have enough money to be self sufficent (no bills other than property tax, grow your own food, make your own clothes, etc.) I've come to terms that im going to be doing something that i hate for a few years until i can actually settle down. so does anyone have any idea as to where i should settle down at? Preferably somewhere warm, good soil, low cost of living, and remote (lots of woods surrounding). My only thought would be georgia or possibly somewhere like northern oklahoma. just anywhere but cold ass michigan.

If I were in your position and at your age with no attachments or responsibilities, and with your ambitions (from what I can tell, you'd like to be a self-sufficient type), I would find a commune. Work through the summer and save up enough to take a greyhound to all the different communes that you'd consider joining. Google commune listing. That will bring up a website with a world wide communal living listing. There is one down in Arkansas that makes some kind of nut butter. I guess the nuts only grow in Arkansas. Just be careful, it would be pretty easy to get stuck in a rut in some communes where you have low-lifes with no ambition. The only reason they are there is to not have to deal with a job. Self-sufficiency is great if you can attain it, but you always have to have your head about you. Don't let some bums drag you down to their level. You can be as communal as you want, but always keep yourself going forward and making your life good. I've seen a lot of documentaries on communes where half the people were nothing but low lifes. Didn't take care of themselves, lazy, pieces of shit in general. Just be careful!

Enjoy life - and don't work for THE MAN if at all possible. It will destroy you, take it from me.

Personally I was thinking of moving to Portland to become a 'guerrilla gardener', I hear they have a rather nice sustainable urbanization movement.

How about Montana? It's colder, and no hippies. (and will make you miss Michigan).
I just invest a little money in warm clothes.
