well it seems you and your mama are realli close even though she doesn't love the hair. When I first got mine my husband was reallllllli not liking them and I thought he'd never come round. Slowly but surely he is though:)my mama was soo not into me getting them either because she thought I'd wanna cut them out after a month or so. Now she likes them though (my dad just thinks I'm insane but they don't bother him) mama's are made to moan. I should know-I am one:D

As a behavioral therapist....I would say try the ol' extinction/redirection trick. In other words...ignore the undesired behavior and reward her for desired behavior....ok in other words...when she talks about your dreads ignore her completely...redirect the conversation to something more happy....and then give her tons of attention and love when she goes along with your redirection! If you stop feeding into her "why dreads are not good on you" lectures...then she'll have no reason to lecture you because she'll realize its a wasted breathe!

*will try to ignore the kittens the next time they break one of my wedding presents in the middle of the night, and not stamp around the house swearing at the top of my voice for about 5 minutes* :p

I do this with my hubby. If he is getting too negative I distract him with something that always makes him smile: naked boobies! :D Works like a charm.
