does anyone have some good solutions to clean the smell of cat pea from the carpet..i hate carpet but its here so i need to clean it..my cats sometimes pea along the base boards.....nothing i can do but get on to the when i catch them and then clean it the best i can...but i need something that repels them from wanting to .......and getting rid of them is not an option.....thanks for your help...
At an animal sanctuary I worked at we used a vinegar/water solution to first clean it and then odoban to deodorize it. If your cats aren't fixed, then fixing them may help with the urinating problem. Also if its a new problem they may have a urinary problem (such as crystals or stones) and need to see a vet. If they only use that one spot try putting a litter box there and slowly moving it to the area you want it to be in. Also using a citrus spray in that area might help.
Bicarbonate of soda will get the smell out of the carpet, worked a treat for my daughter. She has this problem with one of her cats, started after neighbours cat got into the house so I guess it's a territorial thing. She's tried everything but the little blighter won't stop. Any ideas anyone? By the way, just sprinkle the bicarb on the carpet, leave awhile, then vacuum off.
i have a multi cat family and i guess everyone wants to say this is mine....you gotta love cats.....i have done the baking soda and vinegar on spots before, but it doesn't seem to repulse them to not go back there...i will try all of your ideas....thanks alot......
If none of the other ideas work, you may want to try using a mild solution of water and bleach to sanitize the soiled areas. Of course, you want to dilute the bleach a great deal to prevent discoloration of your carpet, by only adding a couple cap fulls of bleach to a gallon of water. The next step is to take a clean soft dry cloth and gently rub it on the faces of the offending cat, then rub the cloth on the area they are spraying. The reasoning behind this is that cats who get territorial often spray and if you mark the area with their scent they no longer feel threatened. This is the reason all cats love to rub their faces on peoples legs, since they are marking you as part of their family with scent glands located on their cheeks. Next to body language, scent is the most important form of feline communication. Finally, as a last ditch final solution, take some grated-up catnip and sprinkle in over the area and it will distract their attention from spraying and if you have access to fresh catnip, it works even better. I have a bunch of catnip growing on my porch which I started from seeds and my cats simply love it and I have used it successfully with the above techniques when territorial issues arise. Good luck!
