I've been on my speech and debate team for four years, I'm one of three people that have ever been on for four years.

Tomorrow I go to compete at districts which determines if I can go to nationals or not. The past week I've had to scramble to get a new speech together (long story, but the one i've been using all season wouldn't work) and now it's in a really good place, and my partner and I have a really good chance at making it.

This morning my partner got into a car accident and broke her ankle. And it will be impossible to do our piece (it's a thing that we act out, and we have to be really physical in it). I have been sobbing forever.

She's okay, and of course this isn't her fault. But I'm just so upset, this was my ONLY chance, this was it, four years of work came down to this weekend, and something I couldn't control put me out.

    gah. i don't even know.

never a waste of life. very disappointing, though. but maybe this'll teach you some shit about not putting too much emotion into an activity or something.

nah, fuck it. that sucks. i'm sorry.

In a few years, you will look back and see how insignificant this event is.

Edit to add: It seems like you're always crying over something to do with this debate club. Maybe you should invest your time into something that save your tear ducts some wear and tear.

sucks, but it sucks even more that you apparently spent four years on a team that you apparently don't enjoy at all for the sole purpose of winning an event that statistically, you were never very likely to win no matter what.

I am tempted to post something bitchy, but I'll just post a sad face instead.

I bitch about my we the people team a lot, and that is a different thing entirely than debate. (although they are similar and they would be confusing if you didn't have experience in both.)

Anyways, it sucks, I'm sad, but whatever. It wasn't meant to be. I just hate that I wasted so much time.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Z7BNgIVC98 this is the event we were doing, so it's pretty impossible to do with crutches.

and even though it sucks, i'm glad i've invested so much emotion into it, because I would hate to be doing things I didn't care about.

hey, i know how you feel. i sang since 2nd grade and took intense voice lessons all through high school. then, just before my senior recital, i caught a cold and lost my voice. i was devastated.

but now i'm writing my own music and am recording an album soon. trust me, you haven't wasted your time. it's a silly competition. if you really care about debate, which you obviously do, you will keep on keeping on. so quit your whining ;)

it isn't the fact that i didn't win, it's the fact that I don't even get to compete. This was my last chance, and I know I could have done it. Now I don't get to try, and that is a shity situation.

its good to do things you are passionate about, but all things in moderation. your passion should not consume you.

    of course, it's subjective.

If you come away from it all with smiles and good memories from speech and debate, it will not have been a waste. I never made it past semis in anything, but I don't feel it was a waste at all. I have such great memories and became such a good person because of speech, it doesn't matter at all now that I never won. I was really bummed back then because I didn't ever place in anything, but I can't remember many times in my life I've been happier than I was just going to tourneys. If you enjoyed it, it was no waste.

BRAVO!!!!! I applaud your passion and understand your disappointment. But things don't always work out the way we want them too. Acceptance is the take home message here.
