any raw foodists here? I got way off track during the summer, i live with my parents and.........yeah. but i really want to get a hold on raw this fall.
you should be a little mindful that some food really does need to be processed/ cooked so you can get the full benefit from it. carrots should ideally be cooked
I second rawfoodtalk. I'm a raw food wannabe. I keep trying and failing. One summer I lasted 2 months though. I lost a ton of weight and felt great. One day I'll pull my head out of my ass and really do it...
I have read a few studies that carrots are more nutritious cooked, though I am sure they don't have to be cooked. Thanks for the links. I am not a raw foodie but try to eat as much raw as I can, which seems to be easier in the summer when the garden is producing.
I am a raw foodie, in thoery. I eat raw when my body wants, needs, or is near the unprocessed food. I think this is the best way. I too ate raw for a month with ok results, I lost weight felt great, but lacked protein. I lift weights, run and garden for a living which means I need alot of repairing proteins. Now of course many people will say you don't need much protein and that you don't need meat. I didn't need meat the whole 2008 season gardening, but my body feels and repairs drastically quicker with meat. So anyway the only way that the low protein diet works for people who eat raw is because you must eat a ton of food! Given I ate that way for a month, didn't eat a ton,and lived but to sustain a healthy weight, nervous system, thyroid function, digestion, muscle mass, etc. etc. you must eat a ton of raw foods, we're talking me, 23 yrs old burning 3,000-3,500 calories a day, I could eat 3,000 raw food calories, which is less calories than cooked because it's more nutritious and sustain a given weight. However, 3,000 calories is a ton of raw food! I know almonds right? Oh yah and hemp protein! It's well known in the fitness industry that athletes who eat vegan, raw, or veggie must eat 2 to 3 times more calories than that of someone who eats a high protein diet. You just can't get enough protein to eat low calorie and be in shape. As you increase the number of calories in your diet the less protein you need. This is a common theory for nutritionists training athletes these days. But I know I could eat raw, sustain weight and proper functions without upping my calories even twice! One good thing about eating raw is that you get life force energy into your body! We can all use some of that!
