I was thinking about it, and i might try it i really just want to cleanse my body, and plus i am trying to loose some weight. im thinking doing this may give me a good start im not sure how long i would do it for though... maybe 3-5 days do does anybody have any advice or comments on this?
well. you need water to live for one. and it serves many services in your body, and also drinking water will help you loose weight. as the dude above said, you need food. so your body can have energy so you can exercise to lose weight. a water fast would not be a good idea.
being a native american theres some odd things we do from other peoples views. like the vision quest... where one goes out in nature, theres a whole ceremony thing that goes on before hand but, u basically sit out there by yourself day and night, for 4 days sometimes without food or water! this also applies to the sundance, except their ur litterly standing/dancing there all day in the sun and at night without food or water. it sounds pretty crazy... its kinda scary if u think about it, and no i havent done any of this. i think it be pretty hard on the system, plus ur not gonna be just sitting there in meditation/prayer... ur gonna be doing what u usually do right? walkin, goin about, ur gonna be so tired. but hey its up to you, im sure its possible though.
try the master cleanse....with lemons, cayenne pepper, and maple syrup...get the book or look it up....
guys, a water fast is where you don't eat food or drink juice. You just drink water. It is a good idea and has its benefits, fasting has been known for curing all sorts of illnesses and diseases.
Fasting works because digestion is very intense on your body and it gives your body a break from digesting so that it can concentrate on healing other things. You will not die from a 3 day fast unless you have some kind of serious problems. But if after your 3-day fast you go back to your same old ways then it was kind of pointless.. You just went and put all those 'toxins' back into your body.
Indeed! Fasting is a great idea if youre serious about starting a new healthy diet. When the digestive system (including liver and kidneys) doesnt have any tasks to do it cleans and detoxifies itself. Other than a few herbs like milk thistle and danelion root fasting is one of the best ways to heal an overburdened body, and these days with most people's processed and bastardized diets it's something that everybody should do as a bridge to a healthier diet. If you're not serious about revamping your diet don't bother. All you will end up doing is slowing your metabolism.
you may helping your liver and kidneys and digestive system.. but you are putting great strain on your body not to mention storing fat and burning muscle because your body is getting no source of energy.. water has no calories.. therefor water has little to no energy to supply the body with... why not just change your diet for the better.. increase your antioxidant intake to help cleanse your body instead of stopping eating.. not to mention.. you are gonna go into this thinking "this fast will help me lose weight" which can turn into huge problems in the future.. as you go "oh no.. i gained 5lbs.. time to fast"...
water fasts have been around forever--it wont hurt u except you might need electrolyts so you dont get faint---try a 3 dayer first---good luck on your cleanse---get rid of that poisen -Peace
I've been fasting since Monday (today is Sunday) and I've eaten VERY small bits and pieces through out - about enough to make up a quarter of a normal meal - and drinking room temp. water mixed with honey and lemon juice. I weight 200 lbs. right now, but I'm trying to fast for as long as I can (possibly 2-3 weeks). Any comments?
I went on a vision quest and water fasted and I came back 5 days later feeling amazing. Two to three weeks is pretty outrageous though, you could get ill or something if you aren't readdy for it. I'd go with one small meal a day and plenty of water.
I have done a few water fasts in the past. After a couple of days you don't get hungry. After 4days I felt better than ever, really happy and concentrated. You shouldn't do it to lose weight though.
This is very silly. Fasting to lose weight will not work. You will put the weight on very fast when you stop. You will become malnourished and get dizzy.. maybe even faint. You will screw your metabolism up. Just eat right and do some exercise! I lost 60lbs in 6months. Just eating good and lots of exercise. It's not hard. Why not try go on a soup diet? something is better than nothing.
If you're serious about fasting to start a change in your diet, and not just to lose weight, you should probably juice fast first. (And not store-bought juices, buy a juicer and go to it with all the fruit and veg you can stock your fridge with!) Juice fasting will give your digestive system a chance to relax as there will be no fiber to digest, only nutrients, yet won't be such a shock to the system as a water fast would. Plus, as juice can be so nutrionally dense, it's a great way to help your body heal and detoxify (and you can juice fast for a LOT longer than you can water fast). So if/when you decide to do a water fast, you have an idea what your body is in store for and won't be hitting it cold-turkey. However, if you do any sort of fast and then go back to eating a cheeseburger a day... there's not much point, really.
Well I wouldn't really suggest you just jump into a water fast you have to prepare your body for it. Start by lowering your intake, eat less then you normally do, the next day eat less then that, and so on. I did a water fast for a 6 days-or a week. The first two days are the hardest then it gets easy. Just keep busy, drink lots of water. Don't exert yourself to much.
While I've heard that fasting is a great way to give your liver and kidney's a break, I feel you should check out this article on detoxing instead and see how if this is something you might be more interested in. http://www.wholeliving.com/article/healthy-detox I had bought a copy of Body + Soul Magazine a few months ago and a more detailed article on detoxing was in there.
