something to think on. i laughed, but it got me thinking too. i think people who drive cars should be more aware of their surroundings, particularly when the surroundings include people. i also think that cyclists should follow the goddamn law, because around here cyclist is synonymous with ' i follow the rules of the road when its convenient for me,'

what do you think? sure, drivers need to be more aware, but if you are a cyclist and you don't signal, or you skirt the rules of the road at your discretion, aren't you at fault as well? maybe im the only one who feels this way, but it just pisses me off sometimes.

If they don't signal, they deserve to be hit.

I've never seen a cyclist anywhere around here.

awesome, thanks for posting this. i've seen it before, but didn't remember where. i'm a cyclist and i admit to sometimes bending the traffic laws. like running a red light or hopping on the sidewalk. and i don't signal, but i mostly only go straight.

THEY DON'T DESERVE TO BE HIT.

Drivers make mistakes every fucking day, I see it 24/7, everytime I'm on the road. I'm sure all of you have made mistakes, I bike around a lot, the only times I've been come close to being hit though has BEEN MY FAULT I will admit but people in cars need to be A LOT more aware considering they're driving something that is very dangerous and could easily kill another person and even them.

but see, thats what i mean. thats a problem with vehicles in general, we have rules we just don't always follow them. if someone in a car is speeding through a red light, is that any more dangerous than someone on a bike doing the same? it would be nice if we all followed the rules. i don't drive because im afraid (i see cars as large weapons, and i have a short fuse) but it does give you a chance to observe.

i just think this is a good thing to have a discussion about, and thank you for being honest porkstock.

Well, it's a LOT different when I car breaks a traffic law considering there is a lot more at risk as in hurting someone else but it is dangerous as well for a cyclelist to run a red light because he can CAUSE an accident because someone may swerve to miss and hit someone else.

because the cyclist causing other peoples' injuries is different than someone in a car causing injuries? should we swerve to miss a bicycle if the other option is to plow over a mother and child on the sidewalk? i still dont see your point.

I cycle pretty much everywhere, I never learnt to drive and have no need to plus it's greener, often faster in city centre traffic and it keeps you fit. I'd say 90% of the time I follow the law, I don't have lights on my bike at the minute which is illegal at night but I wear a hi-viz jacket and because I live in the city centre I only ever ride on really well lit main roads or deserted backstreets at night. Was stopped next to a police car in traffic the other night and they didn't do anything. I very rarely run red lights though I often just get off my bike and push it over the crossing then get back on it heh...

I ride a battered old rigid framed GT Palomar, you guys?

the better option would be to take the 2nd lane around me. no swerving needed;)

Drivers that don't signal deserve to be shot. Goes both ways. I've been closer to being hit more times from a driver not using their signal than me weaving in and out of traffic/ not signaling.
