After having many problems with all other forms of birth control, I decided to give the Provera shot a try. I took it, and didn't like it either. It made me feel like I was retaining a lot of water, it made me feel....gross. So, I stopped taking the shot....in August of 2008. I had two shots before that....which would have put my last shot in June and my first in March of 2008. I hadn't had a period the entire time AFTER taking the shot. When I decided not to go back in August for that shot, I figured it would be a few months, 3 or 4 until I had a period. I still haven't had one. That puts me at a year without a period. I knew not to expect one WITH the shot, but I haven't had one at all since I stopped taking it. Is that normal? I don't feel any different....as far as that goes. I just....miss my period. Nothing I read on the internet really sheds any light about what the normal time frame is to expect a period....or maybe I'm overlooking it.
id talk to your doctor about it i know lots of people do have issues restarting their periods. it was about 4.5 months after my last shot that i got mine, and i went on the pill (which should regulate periods n all...) 3 months after my last shot. basically... the shot sucks hairy monkey balls and i wouldnt really recommend it to anyone.. and talking to your doc about ways to start up your period again might be smart
well the hormones in the shot are different and (if im not mistaken) stronger. i have only ever trusted the pill, and even then i combo that with not having sex when im frisky (a sure sign that im ovulating.) i would see your gyno and see what can be done. i would hate to go without my period, the girls these days have too many options, and not enough information. you have to figure out why you are not menstruating before it can me remedied.
I'm no expert on the shots, but going a year without a period definitely isn't right. I think you really should see your gyn about this.
My cousin had a situation similar to to this. She didnt go that long without a period. but she ended up pregnant before she got her period.
sounds similar to me... a few years back i also took 3 shots and ended up without a period for 10 months after the last one... my gyno scared me adn said all the blood was storing in my uterus and was probably stretching it out, etc... lol i think she was full of shit though because i had no side effects besides the missed period. When it came back, it was lighter than normal if i remember correctly, but then went back to normal pretty quickly.
I've got an appointment for the 24th of this month, I'm going to keep calling daily to see if there are any openings due to cancellations. Hopefully my body just hated the shots and is punishing me with warning.
