The Tranny went. I haven't gotten an estimate on it, but looking around online, I am guessing it will cost around $1300-1500 to fix it(maybe less, as my uncle will do it at cost). The car, in good shape with no tranny issues is worth approximately $2500 according to NADA and just under that according to KBB. I bought it for $500. Should I just sell it for parts? It does have brand new snow tires with less than 500 miles on them. I was counting on this fucking car as being an investment. Now, I just want to get my money back. Blaaaahhhh Make a decision for my, RT's mechanics....
I'd sell it and buy another $500 car. You would think cheap cars would be cheap to run and fix, but that assumption is wrong.
yeah go on and sell it for parts, however it's really up to you on whether or not to keep the snow tires!
What went on the tranny? Is it auto or manual? Sometimes on automatics the problem is in the valve body, which doesn't require pulling the whole tranny from the car but only the pan. Someone might be able to fix a valve body problem for less money than a full tranny job. If it is front wheel drive, a failure of one of the CV joints will stop the car as if the tranny went because the power is conveyed to the wheel that is offering the least resistance. I know of a few cases where one of the drive shafts popped out of the tranny because of a bad circlip, making it seem like the tranny went bad. You didn't put much money into it, so you could still make out ok by just selling it. .
Its a Neon http://www.hipforums.com/newforums/showthread.php?t=349786&f=51 I would get a used transmission put in...those cars are great for puttering around
