So, today I decided to test my school's tolerance to barefoot students. It is forbidden in the school handbook "To provide a safe environment for our students, shoes are required" Ok... whatever. So I wore my flip flops on the bus, then when I was at breakfast I stashed them in my bag. I sat through my advisory or homeroom or whatever you want to call it, and no one noticed. As I was walking to my first period class, my homeroom teacher looked at my feet, and said "Oh my god! Holly, where are your shoes?!?" It was... odd. She looked at me like I was wearing my underwear outside my pants or something. o_0 I actually went barefoot most of the day, not wearing shoes in the halls, or in class. Just putting them on to leave class. (The teachers don't want to get in trouble for letting a kid leave their class without shoes on) So, most of my teachers could care less, as long as I got my work done. I hope it stays like that. (Also, hi everyone! I'm new to the forums.) iggy:
Hi Raccoon Welcome to the forums! Kudos for your courage in taking the "bold step" of barefooting during your classes. Your pragmatic approach to the barefoot lifestyle will serve you well. Please be sure to continue to post your adventures!
Sounds Cool......Keep Up The Good Work... And Welcome To This Crazy Place... Keep Em Bare... Cheers Glen.
I just like being barefoot, and in school it just kind of bugs me to wear shoes. I'll be taking a test or trying to listen to a teacher, but in the back of my mind, it's like "You can't feel the floor!"
At the end of the school day you can look at your feet and see just how much effort the janitor puts into cleaning the place. When I was in school for the first time without shoes, I laughed at the end of the day at how dirty the place was. Time for a new caretaker. =D
@ Racoon Paws - congrats on breaking with the handbook and welcome to the boards @Lollercopters - how many attend your school ? 500,1000 2,500 ? think how much foot traffic (pun intended) that moves up and down the hallways during the day.
Ouch, flip flops then bare feet in Indiana in the middle of winter...cold. Tough feet! I know what you mean about "feeling the floor". Does your school have tile or carpet? I've always been mesmerized by the feeling of the tile floor in places: School, grocery store, Kmart, etc... Carpet- not so much.
Raccoon, congrats and welcome to the forums. Hope you will find yourself getting to enjoy going barefoot more and more! I would have loved to have seen the look on the teacher's face. Sometimes when some one in an authoritarian position is confronted with something so far beyond their conception of the world, it's priceless to note how shaken they can appear when someone with a free spirit passes through their world.
