Nirvana Aerosmith AC/DC It is a tight race between those three. Aerosmith is way more talented musically but they piss me off and bore me quite frankly. Nirvana has a few good songs but are less talented musically. The lyrics are over rated and are simply highschool drama songs. AC/DC is an extremely boring listen for me and the vocals suck! U2 could be thrown in that list but they had a few good albums in the 80s. However Bono, over the past few years has transformed into a huge douche and his douche baggery has overshadowed U2 past accomplishes slightly. As a person, Bono is over rated but not the music from long ago. Lets see, Dave Matthews, never been interested but I can imagine they might be bearable live and maybe even jam a little. Still, fairly over rated, more than many bands but not as much as Nirvana by a long shot. Zeppelin is actually good but High tide and other obscure late 60s hard rockers are the true trend setters and ironically, also underground. Seems to be the case in the late 60s, obscure bands are the true innovater but no one hears them so some other famous band steals the sound and claims the sound as their own. I would say the Beatles, Black Sabbath and even rolling stones are more over rated than Zeppelin. Kinks and Pretty things of course are far superior, in my eyes, than all the aforementioned classic rock bands. Pink Floyd, to throw in another "write in", is not over rated, except for dark side of the moon. It is a victim of being over played to death more than being over rated. But the amount of plays is undeserved and thus makes it slightly over rated (with the amount of plays it gets this is easy to understand). Especially when you compare it to other better PF albums that receive much less attention. Eagles are saved by a few good and extremely catchy songs.
Metallica ... Some of those shouldn't even be on that list lol... for example Led Zep ... its a sin to even put it on that list haha
Been Dazed and Confused for so long it's not true. Wanted a woman, never bargained for you. Lots of people talk and few of them know, soul of a woman was created below.
Agree 100% I'm a big fan of Nirvana and Pearl Jam as well. I can see how some people think Nirvana was overrated, but Pearl Jam and especially Led Zep are legendary in my book MTV ruined radio. Once it became about the image rather than the music it all turned to shit.
yeah I agree too. But the thread was about bands that are overrated. Nirv were calculated, but the zep and the jam they are real, very real.
I would say Aerosmith, Led Zeppelin or Nirvana. I only say this because I've never heard of the last two on the list so they can't be overrated. Radiohead, U2 and Metallica, I think are still making music, so there is a reason for people to go on about them now. AC/DC I've not heard much hype for, neither with Pearl Jam. Oh yeah, and I don't like Aerosmith.
hers was the first i read, i was too blinded by rage to read any more. P.S. I wasn't serious -completely-
lol. I can't say I can empathise with your rage. But glad to see you have some passion. Thank fuck for that
said the 24 year old...where did zep steal there sound..did you mean ''inspired by''....i have concert shirts older than you
ageist condescension Now by popular demand! A list of some of the songs Zep stole from other artists: "Babe I'm Gonna Leave You" - A folk song by Anne Bredon, this was originally credited as "traditional, arranged by Jimmy Page," then "words and music by Jimmy Page," and then, following legal action, "Bredon/Page/Plant." "Black Mountain Side" - uncredited version of a traditional folk tune previously recorded by Bert Jansch. "Bring It On Home" - the first section is an uncredited cover of the Willie Dixon tune (as performed by the imposter Sonny Boy Williamson). "Communication Breakdown" - apparently derived from Eddie Cochran's "Nervous Breakdown." "Custard Pie" - uncredited cover of Bukka White's "Shake 'Em On Down," with lyrics from Sleepy John Estes's "Drop Down Daddy." "Dazed And Confused" - uncredited cover of the Jake Holmes song (see The Above Ground Sound Of Jake Holmes). "Hats Off To (Roy) Harper" - uncredited version of Bukka White's "Shake 'Em On Down." "How Many More Times" - Part one is an uncredited cover of the Howlin' Wolf song (available on numerous compilations). Part two is an uncredited cover of Albert King's "The Hunter." "In My Time Of Dying" - uncredited cover of the traditional song (as heard on Bob Dylan's debut). "The Lemon Song" - uncredited cover of Howlin' Wolf's "Killing Floor" - Wolf's publisher sued Zeppelin in the early 70s and settled out of court. "Moby Dick" - written and first recorded by Sleepy John Estes under the title "The Girl I Love," and later covered by Bobby Parker. "Nobody's Fault But Mine" - uncredited cover of the Blind Willie Johnson blues. "Since I've Been Lovin' You" - lyrics are the same as Moby Grape's "Never," though the music isn't similar. "Stairway To Heaven" - the main guitar line is apparently from "Taurus" by Spirit. "White Summer" - uncredited cover of Davey Graham's "She Moved Through The Fair." "Whole Lotta Love" - lyrics are from the Willie Dixon blues "You Need Love." http://www.warr.org/zep.html
