I was drinking some orange juice this morning when I read on the carton that Tropicana is going to preserve 100 square feet of rainforest for every participating carton code that is entered onto the following website: http://www.tropicanarainforest.com
100 sq ft = 2.3% of an acre, so you can buy off 40 people for 1 acre, when you consider participation rate is going to be pretty poor then all in all this isn't going to cost tropicana very much. Still nice of them to bother.
it's supposed to be protected through the group Cool Earth. and I remember reading on the website that they were making sure to preserve the native trees that were already there and hire natives for security and such. like you, I am a little skeptical, but so far I have not seen any reason to disbelieve them. apparently, you can buy half an acre for preservation off Cool Earth for $50.
i think its a great idea and i bought some tropicana and entered the code... i appreciate them making an effort
Bullshit, it probably causes more carbon emissions to make the paper and ship the juice from Florida than the preserved rainforest absorbs. It's a scam.
But they're also saving the rainforest at the same time. You can plant trees to eliminate co2 but you can't re-plant an ancient rainforest that's been burned down. Good for tropicana. It would be wonderful if all large, wealthy corporations and the people who purchase their goods followed suit.
Tropicana...the stuff that comes in like a milk carton is the best so much better than the frozen concentrate shit
