hey daisymelan, don't worry about those crazy-sticking-every-which-direction dreads. since you backcombed your dreads (i did too, it works great), the hair at the roots is really teased and stiff right now, but after a couple of washes the poufyness and stiffness at the roots will relax and your dreads will fall flat against your head. NO WORRIES! wear a hat if it really bothers your, or drag them all into a messy knot... it took about 2 washes for the pouffiness and stiff-at-the-roots thing to relax a bit, for me.

How long is your hair? Sounds sorta short. Short hair, plus back combing, can equal palm tree. Letting it grow will help. A nice wool tam will also help.

    welcome daisy hun x x x
you don't have to worry, your hair will realx within the next few days/weeks. Have you washed it yet? That should help. Also, hats will help and sleeping on them:)
They will settle w/ time and fall into themselves. The first couple weeks are the hardest and it's a big transition. Glad you found us here though, it will make your dready jouney soo much better:)

you can wash whenever you like. clean hair locks up faster, so, wash it! LOL :) waiting the magical week or two weeks or whatever when you initially lock up is sorta one of those myths... kinda like the one where they say wax is good for your dread, DONT USE WAX!!! LOL!!! - the truth of the matter is, the oils in your hair actually RETARD the locking up process, so you want to keep your hair really really clean. there are a few good streams on here about washing.... what are you using for shampoo?
when i locked up, i washed after 3 days.... gently, mind you, but, yeah. leaving your hair for a long time doesn't help at all....

I say wash when you feel like it. I mean if your hair is oily or your scalp is itchy, then do. What shampoo do you have? If you just have 'normal' shampoo maybe you could just use some bicarb? Have you seen the stickyicky wax removal thread? It has ingrediants for a deep cleanse and a lot of the ingrediants you may have in your house already:)

yes! just wash bare headed. if you're dreads are so stiff they're sticking straight out, they're definately formed strong enough to wash without being too painfully careful! are you using wax??

omg, don't use a panty hose! where do people come up w this stuff lol?! let them get wet normally! there is no magic wat to wash them. just do as you feel you should. I know I would feel totally crazy and unnatural peeling pantyhose over my head. jsut squeeze them when your done.

the stiffness can be extras bad if u used wax thzats a nono
but backcombed dreads look like antenas for awhile..looks gioofy but just relax

when u wash, concentrate on washing the scalp only.. then rincde it thru the dreads
u dont gotta scrub the dreads themselves

backcombed dreads will stick up for a while, mine flattened after a couple of nights being slept on, and defo after being washed

dont bother wearing anything on yer head when you wash them - if you do use the kboy shampoo bar, rub it along the scalp inbetween the dreads and lather it up, and rinse it off. but make sure you rinse REALLY REALLY well because ive always ended up with slight flakies if i dont rinse it properly. wash the scalp, the soapy water will run thru the dreads and clean them

sounds like you have headcheese too, its all good (i do too) just give it a wash.. maybe scratch a bit to loosen all the gunk and then wash it

you can wash after 3 days, 6 days, 2 weeks.. whatever. wash when you think you need too. it wont harm them, itll probably help

My hair stuck up for almost 2 months. It wouldn't lay right for the life of me then one day after washing my hair it fell normally all at once. They will continue to lay different as the knots tighten too.

i havent done anything to my bottoms, some were backcombed and knotted and tangled quite tight, others were left loose and straggly.. the straggly ones are my faves =]
