i have had dreads now for 2 and 1/2 months and my dreads seems prettly loose and wild still, not that im complaining. my question to all of you is how long did it take for your dreads to mature. I no there isnt one answer for this but when was it that you looked in the mirrior and saw that your dread locks where really forming and tight and not just a rats nest or backcombed hair. and what method you used.

mine are about 2 monthes now and they're looking a lot like mature dreads.... not quite there, but getting close.... i backcombed them..... but some of them, especially the ones at the nape of my neck are already ROCK hard. it's amazing. when i had dreads before, i used wax, and it took FOREVER for my hair to lock up.... these ones are getting tight super fast.

I backcombed initially, but not well (so they're pretty natural). I didn't get "dreads" until about 5 months. It's not until just recently (7 months), that they really look dready and well formed.

I don't expect them to be "mature" for another half a year or so.

yeah. that sorta sounds funny "i've had dreads for 2 monthes and they're soooo mature!" (laughing at myself), what i mean is, they're looking like dreads and they're not falling apart, and they're starting to get hard. YAY :) LOL!

2.5 months is nothing. You are fine =)

Mine are 12 months and look less mature than most people's 2 months.

I have had my dreads over 1 year and I don't think mine are mature. I think mature means different thigns for different people. Mine were regonizable as dreads at 6 months but are just 50% mature I would say. At year 2 I imagine them being almost mature,

yea id say 2 years as a rule of thumb is pretty much a good maturity measure
its hard to say b4 or after exactkty when they are mature, but 2 years is a good checkpoint

its not like they ever really stop changing, i mean mine are pretty old but stuill go through tons of changes, (mid life crisis maybe?)

for a ywear thiugh tghey are just babies.. second year u might concider em teens..rebelios

i think i maybe said mine were mature when they reached mid back /(cincidering they wree inches long to start)
at shoulder length they were..dreads.. young dreads but dreads.. then mid back to waste length theyre defin ately grown up..

but like ppl nature dreads can act imature too..
    misbeghave and go wild
    keeps things fun

at 2.5 months they're just starting to mature. Depending on hair type, mine were matured at about 8-9 months.

Spend some time palm rollin those puppies if you want them to lock up faster bro. I backcombed and used wax to put mine in but hated the feeling so much, swore off additives at all besides sea salt and the occasional aloe. I'm at 10 months now and they're lookin pretty mature. I'm tryin to get some pics on here. I'm tellin you man, spend some time palm rolling and if your locks are anything like mine the results will blow your mind.

hahaha palm rolling dont help anything mature at all, in fact it slows things slightly, the only thing it helps is making them too round and manufactured looking and ..can do dammage (even severe if ovr done, heard reports of dreads rolled riggyt off the head)
when wet its most affective but thats also when hairs more easily dammaged
i dont recommend palm rolling at all, unless u absolutely bnneed a perfect professional look with every dread perfectly round and boring
if thats the case,,do it rarely, gently as u can
the more u do or harder u do it the greater therisk
but kt does no good in helping nmature dreads
(rolling can contribute to unraveling and loosening as u roll the tendency is for the hair to be smoothed out to become closer to the strraight hair..odviosly not all knots will unkotot at all, but weak knots will be rolled kloose to lay flat against eachother

your better off leaving em alone

when i have baby dreads form from undreaded hair between dreads they are pretty close to mature in 3 months..just being left alone

it was about 10 months before they started being recognized as dreads, and now at two years im starting to think of them as mature, though they have a lot of growing (or rather tightening and shrinking) left to do.

Mine were about 7/8 months when I felt the change between shrinkage and hardness :) The ones at the back now (9 months) are really nice and tight, ones nearer the top are still babbehs :p
