aha. i feel your pain. except i have friends that understand my beliefs and political views and stuff and agree with them to a certain extent, yet they are too interlocked in society to actually embrace them and do something out of the norm. but dang, texas and racists, that has to get annoying.
That's an awful generalisation. I s'pose people think the same 'bout you.... Sorry, I've been drinkin'......
Suburbs are awesome compared to rural farm communities. I lived in a very small town for a few years and my greatest thrill was driving half an hour to wal mart.
I suppose the suburbs are a better place to find like-minded people than rural communities... but for every like-minded person you find you'll find 5 people around who think you dirty hippies are bad for real-estate values and home owners associations are the fascist regimes of neighborhood policies that have been legally getting away with denying people basic rights to do what they wish with their property. Many HOA's deny people from growing anything but bluegrass on their lawns, deny solar panels because they are "ugly", limit you to bland house paint colors, prevent you from displaying or keeping any object that is considered "aesthetically unpleasing", etc... I was helping my cousin do a landscaping job at some rich-peoples suburb house a few summers back and we had a big pile of dirt sitting in the driveway - and here comes some old fucker from across the street, who obviously has no life and tells us that if we don't move that dirt he's going to file a complaint with the home owners association. We just gave him blank, dumb looks for a minute and just said a long "okay....." and went back to work. We couldn't believe he was serious. People like that piss me off. So if you're a hippie and live in the suburbs - do something to rock the boat! Dislodge your soul from the daily grind and show others the joy of doing so! Make your house an extension of your worldview and use it as a means of expressing yourself and fuck what the HOA says!!!
Try the suburbs of New Jersey. Don't even get me started... hahah. All I have to say is Tacky, Rude, and Radioactive... The only good thing is a 3 dollar train ticket to Philly.
It's bizarre isnt it. We are all told we should marry, have kids and a mortgage so we can be happy and yet be intdistinguishable in a sea of marroon rooftops and orange or creme driveways. That all pretend they are good people, and look out for each other.........just as long as you look like them that is
I completely understand where your coming from. I live on the north shore of chicago, where the end all be all is for you to be a member of a country club, own a big house, and send your kids to a good college to do the same thing. I live in the heart of babylon. i was lucky enough to find at least one other person that understands. Sometimes we just wanna run away n find a good commune or some place with open minded people who want to enjoy life on their own terms
ehhh the best I got is South Street and occasionally seeing plays at the Academy of Music or Walnut Street theater. GreenFest Philly is once a year at 2nd and South streets (it was last weekend), and it's pretty cool. anything that you do for fun?
