My family and I are packing up the bus and heading into New England this summer. Does anyone know of some good chill festies/the likes up that way? I've only really been to a couple up there (berkfest/wormtown) I also really enjoy smaller more intimate gatherings. We're hoping to visit Vermont/Maine/Mass/New Hampshire .... soooo keep us in mind~! We're also down w/ all sorts of music... love bluegrass, jambands, and everything in between.... Thanks! Amber/familia
Amber, even though you didn't mention Connecticut in your list of New Englanders to visit, Gathering of the Vibes is in Bridgeport, CT. It's the place to be. c; http://gatheringofthevibes.com/
yeah i've done gathering of the vibes many a year but I'm really trying to stick to more obscure/smaller fam friendly events this summer... But I do agree Vibes is always a great time!
ive def got a couple for ya. www.greatbaymusicfestival.com-this one jus started up last year. wicked friendly ppl fun drum circles. great vibes. www.wallowinclayhollow.com-this one i havent been to but heard it was really chill. 2 day grass roots fest. www.forestjam.com-didnt get a chance to go to this one but heard it was sweet. and thens theres all the havest festivals in maine and NY.
hmmm, maybe this is closer to what you want than the vibes? it's an every weekend concert series in Niantic, CT. it's a laid back, bring a blanket and picnic dinner with the family kind of thing. and it's in beautiful Niantic! within walking distance of the public beach. also, if you're in Niantic check out book barn (the barn -- not downtown) and Tumbleweeds! the 2009 information isn't up yet, but when it gets closer to the summer, give it another gander. they usually don't put up their information until much later. http://cookinatmccooks.com/
it's a festival near Sherman, NY where Donna the Buffalo has headlined for like 18 years. i was there last year and had one very awesome and long weekend. may be there again this year. http://greatblueheron.com/
oh yeah! blue heron is the shit! what a great festival ~I've been there a few times, missed it the last coupla years though... One of the best times I've ever had was dancing till the sun came up when Red Stick Ramblers rocked the dance tent... Also love having the pond right there for cooling off/ the blanket vending passes are very nice aspect also~ I might round up some things to try n sell this year....We definitely plan on going~ can't wait to see Rusted Root! Hope to see you there... If you end up going let me know, would be fun to say hi in "real" life to folks from here
amber i went last year solo just cause i love DtB. i did meet and hang out with some very nice folks though. of course it would be even better if i know someone there already. that'd be a real treat. be sure and catch town pants. their set last year kicked some serious booty. unsure where i'll be this summer but if i go, hope to see you there.
Check out this cool fair while you're in the area...http://www.mofga.org/TheFair/tabid/135/Default.aspx It's a really cool gathering...also, the Lowell MA folk festival (free!) is rad as well...http://www.lowellfolkfestival.org/ Good luck, & safe travels sister!
Donna the Buffalo, they're pretty popular around these parts, lil bit zydeco, lil bit everything else... They headline blue heron fest, they're not really one of my favorite bands but I do enjoy them, I really like the members' independent music ventures....
also to check out in Newport RI are the free Folk and Jazz festivals held every year. im too lazy to find the link sorry lol. maybe ill edit this post later tday
