I've seen a few articles pop up over my RSS feeds today. Here's one from digg: http://blogs.sfweekly.com/thesnitch/2009/02/legalize_it_ammiano_to_introdu.php Are you merry-cans hearing anything about this? But I'm not seeing any mainstream coverage. That might be a good thing, though. Perhaps MJ being that fabled "gateway" drug will pave the way to getting (pure!) E from my local pharmacy
So does that mean starting today it is legal in california? It says starting monday correct? I just skimmed over it, this is amazing. I applaud California, finally atleast one state is using common sense.
correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't a bill just a suggestion to the state? I bet tones of bills like this have been tried before, but none passed.
Yes won't legalization be great. I mean that's what we've all been saying. But think about it, will it be that great? I want to ask you guys a couple questions if it was legalizedjust answer based on what you think) Would dealers not make as much money?(probably yes, but I want your guys opinions) Would the green sold at gas stations, etc. be high quality or mostly shit? Do you think most dealers would still sell? If the green is as good as your dealer is selling, would you think it is higher priced at store or from your dealer?
They said they would start selling ounces at 50$, that alone would make them millions. Dealers are shit outta luck, it'll probally be shitty qaulity but prices will drop which will be nice! The movement of marijuana will increase in other states because people will just buy it and sell it outta state for jumbo bucks. Dealers will still sell to younger kids probally who still can't legally buy it. Looks like they'll have to get a job, hm?
http://www.cnn.com/video/#/video/bestoftv/2009/02/24/wian.pot.tax.cnn It's just a bill being sent to the state government. If it passes, it will still be illegal under federal law, which is the reason several medical marijuana shops have been shut down.
They said they would charge a fee of $50 per ounce, which goes to the government. They aren't gonna be selling $50 ounces, silly.
How does that referendum thing work in CA? Can't proposed legislation in CA become law by going directly to the electorate? Wasn't the recent gay marriage ban was not an act of the CA State legislature, but rather a proposition put to the voters on the ballot in November? What would it take to get this question put on the ballot? And Mr Dot, I believe that was a $50/oz TAX. In other words, legal pot would be more expensive. Yeah, the conflict with Federal Law would open up a can of worms...Here in the South, we still remember what happened when we hollered about States Rights....
props are voted by the people.. like prop 215.. which is the laws for medical marijuana in california

CA's legislative process must be even stranger than I thought. I would have thought we would know the fate of that bill at the end of the current session of state legislature. How does a proposition get on the CA ballot? Is there some kind of petition process?
Well, with this bill, its been introduced by a politician into the Assembly, so we would probably know for some certainty at the end of the session. But, ultimately, it comes down to a popular vote in the next election.
Are you saying unpassed bills go to referendum in the next general election? I'm probably asking this in the wrong place.....
